I beleive that the next census will properly put Jackson County, MS into the population. If this is true, I think we will see a 2010 population of about 775k - 825k for the three counties.

That's just a wild guess on my part. Usually, I would say no. But I feel that the current estimates are off due to increases from Katrina, so it would not be that big of an increase.

Besides, that's just a little more than 1% per year.

Hell, it will probably end it shrinking, but a little wishful thinking doesn't hurt.

haha wishful thinking. I do think there will be a possitive increase in the city of Mobile but I dont know about 10,000. But who knows right know with all the Katrina victims that bought homes and found new jobs here. hey even with the possiblility of annexation you could see the city increase by maybe 10s of thousands. I think Mobile County will start to see a real boom later on this decade and into the next. I think that Jackson and George counties in Mississippi will be in the metro in the next 10-15 years.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the unicorporated areas of Mobile were to finally become corporated, Mobiles population would increase by about 50%.

I'm pretty sure a few weeks following Katrina, WKRG reported that we added 9,300 to Mobile County. I still see Louisiana license plates everywhere around West Mobile. I'd guess we probably still have about 1/4, maybe 1/3 of those post-Katrina refugees here.

yea....I know a few katrina victims that have made homes here but I think a lot have gone home.oh exodus do you mean annex. yea, west mobile, tillmans corner, Theodore, and Hollinger Island would almost push Mobile's population close to 300,000. But I doubt tillman's corner would annex into Mobile unless the city could show how it can better serve them than the county. I think the city should draw up contracts specific to each area to show them the benefits to them and the entire city. I really don't think being the state largest city is really the goal because in the end the metro is what matters. Some of my friends south of Dog River wish to be annexed. it would be neat if they could. the city could provide better services for the entire area and it would allow the city to lower the sales tax some.

The problem with the Tillman's Corner area is they already get most city services, yet pay lower property and sales tax than in the city. The same with West Mobile. The city was (and is) so hungry for tax revenue that we made a deal that screws us in the long run. At least the runs for annexation have been much more popular than incorporation ideas.

I think Mobile has grown by 10,000 people since last year's Hurricane Katrina. Every event the city has, has been bigger and better this year so far but Hurricane Season starts in last than 2 weeks. Mardi Gras had the biggest crowd ever in Mobile with 240,000 people.

Many of the 250-room Battle House Hotel's amenities, including a spa, health club, golf driving range cages, tennis court and pool, will be built on the top floor of a seven-story parking facility under construction on St. Francis Street, according to a spokesman for White-Spunner Construction. The $15 million building, funded by the Retirement Systems of Alabama , will have retail space on the first floor, six parking levels, and connect to the hotel via a third-floor walkway. The hotel and parking facility should open by the end of the year.

I just got back from a stay at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear. I take back every negative thought I've ever had about Dr. Bronner. That's my favorite hotel I've ever stayed in (and was just $79 with a special RSA discount).

Anyway, it was cool seeing the RSA tower and Mobile skyline from that vantage point.

I agree, Mississippi and Louisana tags are everywhere more so than before. I would guess, people that don't want to go back into the destruction areas and live are looking for something similar to what they had and Mobile fits the bill. We have had several people open accounts from the harder hit areas saying they were moving here. The 7-8 a.m. drive to work has gotten a good bit thicker to me.

I for one moved to Mobile in 1999 and live in west Mobile and I want to see downtown blossom.

Since I started this thread in mid-March of 2005, the RSA Tower has capture the title of the Tallest Building in Alabama. Since Katrina, I can truly say that the work efforts by this great construction coalition have been outstanding. I myself come within feet of the building daily and I can see something new being done each day.

I would like to thank all of you for the continuing information that you provide on the RSA Battle House Tower, Waterstreet Landing, and other developments in Alabama's most progressive city, Mobile. Let's keep it coming!

Great pics! The best view of Dowtown, in my opinion, is from I-10 eastbound from Texas Street to the beginning of the Wallace Tunnel. From this vantage point, the city looks so much bigger.
