I'm watching, with some hope. But I have a feeling the Catholic church is going to screw this up and keep setting back the church as a whole.

The Americans all want an American Pope, I'm not sure if we actually do in Canada, but many would be thrilled.

Not when the new Pope is already in his 70s.

But the Catholic church never reacts to current social pressures. Like that old expression, "The Catholic Church thinks in centuries."

It will eventually come around... but not on human lifespan timelines. That's seen, ironically, as compromising credibility.

I have to say I like the sounds of the new Pope because he is humble, takes the bus, and even asked his friends to give the money they would have spent on a plane ticket to go with him to Italy on the poor. I'm also glad this guy doesn't look like the devil. lol"

Forward steps on these sorts of issues will come when people of the generation that accepts them reach the positions to make the changes. So, when we're in our late 70s, I think we will start to see a real chance of the church making this sort of shift.

The existing church won't bend to social pressure, but when the people making up the church hold the same views as society it will come in line, basically because it has to at that point. Let's not forget, the catholic church maintained a forbidden book list until the 1950's, which had been in existence since the beginnings of the printing press.

'Take yourself there' says N.S. tourism ad campaign

The $5-million campaign is 15 per cent more than the government spent last year. The annual number of visitors is down nine percent since 2000.

Honestly looking at both samples in the article and putting myself in the mindset of not being from the region .. the NL one looks far more appealing .. has something special to it .. idk .. what do you think?

The shakiness of the camera is really annoying - you can't do that when you're using such a close zoom. It's nauseating.

The actual scenes, though, are just gorgeous.

My only problem is the same one I have with most mainland Canadian tourism promotions outside of Quebec - it seems lacking in distinctness and culture. I suspect a lot of it has to do with my own inability to connect to these places... but, to me, that video could be about anywhere from the Gaspe Peninsula to the Carolinas.

That said... Nova Scotia is easier and WAY more affordable to visit for just about anyone from anywhere - excluding St-Pierre-et-Miquelon. If they can look half as enticing as us, they can probably earn more money from it. We'll have to step up our game.

I think theirs look very generic and do not really show any different experiences you would have (they showed a captain standing there and a tree house lol) I dont know it just didn't feel like anything impressive and could have been anywhere in North America (besides the whale scene..

the vote and the commentators feel the same . I don't think we need to feel threatened lol, ours are known for being the best ads in Canada, ours have a je ne sais qoui (just to point out that this story is in the NS section and most comments agree that the NL ads are better and 65% voted NL)

So folks, It has been a long time since my last post. The past 4-5 weeks has been filled with a family illness, a new job and two weeks vacationing in California. Without having to comb through pages and pages of posts, can someone briefly fill me in on anything that I missed here since the beginning of February. Thanks.

ok, I did see both of these in the news. Was hoping for some other announcements of the rumours that have been kicking around or some new developments...

On another note, not sure if anyone has flown with Air Canada lately, but the NL department of tourism now runs the tourism ads on their planes before take off. I was sitting on the planes in both Toronto and San Franciso when the ad ran on every single tv screen on the plane. I thought that was pretty cool!
