Thanks for the updated pics and your thoughts.

Agreed, an interesting roofline could help. Even something simple like little Italy's Envie buildings with opposite slopped rooflines. And agreed on other's suggestions on some interesting lighting or LED strips. I was amazed during my last trip in Toronto the amount of lighting on towers, roofs, strips, etc.. making downtown look more bright, welcoming and vibrant. It's something that almost no building in Ottawa does

And I'm slightly less disappointed if these random cross sections are filled in with that black material (vs. beige bricks a-la Story on Rideau), but I'm still not a fan of this new trend by Claridge. Please... STOP

Thank goodness those black spandrel crosses are low and not very apparent

Like WHY? They don't add anything positive to the design. It's like Claridge's motto is "MORE IS BETTER" when it comes to materials.

Same with the random grey strips, or if you look at the beige section with the different patters every second floor (vertical brick, horizontal brick, no brick with the cross spandrel). Ends up looking busy and incoherent.

What's frustrating with Neuf Architects is that they have pretty decent projects outside Ottawa,

https://www.neufarchitectes.com/en

When they design for Claridge, they keep spitting out the same mix of metal panels and brick and put them together in a disorganized miss-mash of different shades of grey. It's all the same, but different random patterns.

Their buildings are often slightly better than RLA, but at least RLA once in a while surprises us with a decent design. With Neuf, they never stay from their Ottawa specials.

Clairidge sees this comment 'well, time to bust out the neon blue spray paint!'

I know you're kidding, but you just wait... they haven't installed the single random red panel yet!

Pic from PonyBoy vs rendering.

Other than the extra strip of brick in the middle, it looks pretty close.

The east and north façades of the Queen tower look pretty slick. Not bad at all. It's the rest of it. way too much dark brick. Not enough set-backs.

I was looking at the Claridge site the other day after they announced Hintonburgs closure and saw this same render. I meant to make this same comparison but got lazy. I guess that answers my question as to what material will be used on the blueskin. I think I prefer the light brick as opposed to that high glaze black panel on the north side. It's a good ratio and promotes the verticality of the building without chopping it up.

So I agree completely.. the north and east elevations look good IMO. Other sides not so much as many others have pointed out.

I'm definitely a symmetry guy so if you are making things asymmetrical ya better do a fine job of it.

Any update on what will open at the ground floor retail space? Why is it such a secret?

That's a whole lotta HDR effect!

Fun Fact: I used to rent a townhouse in the ramshackle block that was torn down to make way for Claridge Pinnacle back in 2004. they tried to evict us illegally with a single month's notice and a single month's rent as compensation, but I held out until they gave 6 months rent as compensation. I then used that money to travel all around the world.

HDR or not, I'd take 10 Pinnacles over Moon.
And cool story.

The Pinnacles was, well, the pinnacles of Claridge designs. I think they were developing that one, 700 Sussex and Claridge Plaza 1 and 2 around the same time. Too bad they continued towards the Plaza direction instead of Pinnacle and 700.

Balcony glass is going in on some lower levels. From street level, it really livens up this block of charcoal. Not really visible in aerial shots yet.

They seem to be wrapping the frame over the terrace with Tyvek (or whatever they are using), so I'm assuming they will beef up the beams to make them more prominent.

I haven't seen anyone post any news on this front, but has there been any announcement or reveal on the future grocery store at Claridge Moon?

The Moon site suggests it will be ready for occupancy mid-2023, so I hope if that is the case, the grocery won't be too far behind.
