Yea, looks better but plain. I'm ok with it however.

Centre Slush Puppie looks great. What's the seating for hockey - around 4,000-5,000?
It would probably do nicely for smaller concerts.

I like Calgary's arena proposal. It's not fully squared off - it has some curves in it.
Like I said before, I like that it doesn't scream arena - because it makes it fit in better with other buildings.

4,000 regular seats and 600 luxury boxes.

I realize municipalities/stake holders are trying to save money but multi-purpose sports venues DO NOT WORK. For heaven's sake, stop building them. You end up satisfying nothing particularly well. In the worst case scenario, fans start abandoning teams in droves. Football and baseball together is awful. Football and soccer together is passable. Basketball and hockey is common but far from ideal. Soccer and basketball? Good grief.

When will the WHL's Winnipeg Ice release their renderings for their planned 5000 seat new arena in South Winnipeg?

That one had the Rosetti inverted bowl in it too by my eye, and would have suffered when it reverted to a conventional plan.

It would probably have ended up worse honestly.

The new Calgary NHL arena looks like a nice, but generic, facility. I like that it has two (?) active fronts. I assume the other two fronts are along minor streets that will be used for utilitarian reasons (parking, shipping/receiving). If Calgary did not have the iconic Saddledome prior to this proposal, but instead a generic arena like Rexall or Jos Louis, then people may not be as critical.

I much prefer the new proposal in Calgary to the old West Village plan, which screamed sports facility and would have been much harder to replace when the time comes in 30-50 years (which is what we're facing in Ottawa now with the much smaller Civic Centre/half of TD Stadium).

^ Yeah, as appealing as the idea of a conjoined-twin sports facility may be at the outset, it doesn't seem like a great idea when you consider that one portion might have a potentially much longer lifespan than the other.

I don't so much care what it looks like on the outside as long as it functions well on the inside. I mean, that's why you go there. To attend an event in a well designed building with good site lines and enough bathrooms so people don't piss outside the rink like they do in Edmonton.

Using that same logic why should I bother cladding my home in anything beyond tar paper? As long as it’s nice inside and has bathrooms it doesn’t matter what my neighbours have to look at.

If that's the case then why bother building a new arena in Calgary? Last I checked the Saddledome allows people to do all the things you mentioned.

The Saddledome is a dump. Not the best place to watch a game by far. But hey...as long as it looks cool. As far as functioning arena goes, it doesn't do a good job. Long lines for the washrooms. Especially the ladies. Long concession lines. Can't support large concerts etc....If you think it functions well as a sports arena/entertainment venue then you are in the minotity.

If you think lines will disappear with a new building, let me tell you something... I have yet to see an arena or stadium where there aren't lines for the washrooms or concessions during intermission when the venue is sold out or close to it.

Probably nothing that can't get mostly resolved in a major reno for half to 2/3 of the price of the new facility.

I have seen a game at the Saddledome. I was way up on the side. Couldn't see the scoreboard, services were a bit thin - but I thought it was awesome.

Even the main concourse. The arena has that "feel" that you don't get in the more modern arenas.

I still think reno'ing the saddledome is the way to go. Lose about 2k in seats (specifically some of the nose bleeds way up on the sides), improve/expand concessions and services. Maybe even add some substructure under the roof to handle concert equipment.

ICE District finally starting to come together. The Loblaws City Market (far, far left) + liquor store will open in spring 2022 along with a MASSIVE Canadian Brewhouse on the second level of the podium with huge rooftop patio. There are a bunch of other banks going in and room for 3-4 smaller tenants and two more full-service restaurant/bars with plaza-size patios. Finally, we will be getting an Oilers store just to the left of the main entrance to Rogers in the CRU there + Zamboni storage for the plaza ice rink.
