Chuck Clark does some great aerial shots of Ottawa and we are lucky enough to have him share them on the Ottawa forum. Here are a few of his latest.

Nice shots Chad. Its refreshing to see pictures at street level with people in them and not just looking upwards at skyscrapers.

I enjoyed that series about the Government houses a lot, SHH !
One thing : Québec's government house is located inside the Citadel.

Gardes de cérémonie à la Citadelle de Québec by abdallahh, sur Flickr

Before it was destroyed by fire in 1966, the House was located just outside of the old city, in the Bois-de-Coulonge Park, and looked like that :

Source : Wikipedia

In Toronto, according to Wikipedia, the situation is more complex. The first house exploded in 1813. The second one was sold and demolished in 1912. The third one was disused then demolished in 1961. I think the Lieutenant Governor now has some apartments inside of Queens Park... Maybe and Ontarian forumer could give us some insights

'The first house exploded in 1813.'

Wow! They didn't just burn it down - they blew it up!

I didn't realize the Alberta Government House picture I chose was taken from the side.

*****

Hali, this one confused me:

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1462/...5a1a03ee_b.jpg

I have an almost-identically composed pic from somewhere out around the bay. House was red and the background was rural, but it's very similar.

I love stairs - they're generic, of course, but still kind of a symbol of the city to me. A few shots of stairs in/around St. John's.

Ontario's most recent government house was named "Chorley Park" and it was built in 1914.

Source

Its use as the residence of the Lt. Governor was shortlived, though. In 1937 it was closed. After a stint as a military hospital and temporary shelter for Hungarian refugees, it was demolished to create additional parkland in 1961.

I wish we had more of that small infill in our downtown area. Does Halifax have a lot of stuff at that scale?

It seems a little odd Ontario no longer has a government house. One would think they should have a property where the Premier could host dignitaries while in town rather then putting them up in Hotels. I'm sure though if they tried to purchase a property now or buy the top two floors of a building like in Quebec the tax payers would not stay silent.

They should turn this into an official residence though as it's (the tower)just sitting empty. It's directly across from Queens Park and the building is linked to the legislature by a tunnel. The only thing it needs is a fire escape added to the one exterior wall I believe. You can see the 10 empty floors in this image.
