I absolutely love the attitude shift that has occurred in Saskatchewan in recent years. Five years of economic boom has fundamentally moved that place. Heck, even the Riders had some part in it IMO. Can anyone imagine Saskatoon gathering a right of way for future LRT ten years ago?

That being said, they're going to need to end that transit lockout before their BRT is running.

And it still has about 2 more years to go..

They still need to build the green train shed roof, and the underground concourses and underground retail facilities.

The first part of the underground concourse will be handed off to Metrolinx in November and should be open to the public in the first few months of 2015. Then the current Bay concourse closes for reconstruction, and will open in late 2016. With the exception of the Bay concourse, most work should wrap up in the next 10-12 months.

I have not been following this thread so can any Toronto forumers give me their take on the DRL ? Is it true it has become a major civic election issue with even Doug Ford supporting it now?

Not really the main issue, transit overall is the main issue, the DRL and FastTrack seem to be competing side issues though, at least on the transit file.

^ I'm getting the impression that the Toronto election is basically a single-issue election on transit. That true?

Essentially, yes. There are other issues, but they've generally been thrown aside.

Torys smarttrack has become the centre of attention, much like in the provincial election Hudaks 100,000 jobs cut promise was. Difference is that SmartTrack is winning the election for Tory and 100,000 jobs lost it for Hudak.

The funny thing is SmartTrack with the exception of the Eglinton Extention is basically the provincial/Metrolinx RER - GO Regional Express Rail.

We still need the DRL though, it is badly needed. Can't dick around with this shit.

STM’s goal is it won’t buy a bus that has fuel in it by 2025.

Took this photo of the UPX-Bloor street station currently u/c on Friday. Can't seem to line it up to the render I find on the metrolinx site - was the design changed at all or am I just having a brain fart??

You can also buy a weekdays-only monthly pass for $62, so if you only ever take transit on weekdays the ratio is 27 trips.
I didn't realize there was a pass like that - if I'm still living in Kingston next year and I decide to move away from downtown, I very well might go for that. Better than paying over $100/month for a monthly parking pass.

Jim Watson, Mayor of Ottawa, was re-elected yesterday by a massive margin--76% of the vote, 4 times greater than his closest challenger who advocated scrapping Phase 2 of the Confederation Line.

Ottawans just gave a very strong endorsement to major transit expansion

VIA Rail has announced yet another round of service expansions between Toronto-Ottawa starting this Friday in response to increased demand. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will see an additional 10:30am departure from Ottawa and a 10:15am departure from Toronto. These trips will be semi-express running Ottawa-Fallowfield-Kingston-Toronto.

With this, there will now be 96 trains per week between Toronto & Ottawa, up from 88 currently. Three years ago there were only 64 trains.

VIA reports that Toronto-Kingston-Ottawa ridership increased by 38% from 2012 to 2013.

Christ that is fast growth. 120,000 additional passengers annually.

I guess it just further proves how viable the rail corridor is..
