BTW does anyone think its time the city officialy designate the Warehouse District as a neighborhood? I think its silly that if i live upriver of Julia I have to vote in the LGD because its technically part of that neighborhood.
Yes, the Warehouse District should definitely be designated as a neighborhood. It makes no sense to be lumped together with the LGD.

Rare case of something going from suburbs to city proper...hope it's a trend:

Is there a requirement that every real estate piece have someone quoted that is against a project? Why do they have to do that!

75 ft is so reasonable for that location. I really wish we could increase the height limit substantially all along the river so that we could finally have multiple apartments with river views.

Yea, I'd love for Chartres to become a levee-front boulevard with midrises lining it. The Elysian Fields corridor is also so wide that it really needs substantial midrises along it, or it will always feel like a drag strip.

One thing they might consider with Elysian Fields is to remove the huge neutral ground and replace it with two smaller ones, like the real Champs-Élysées.

The old Grand Palace Hotel on Canal Street -- which was scheduled to be razed this month -- is on fire. Firefighters are trying to extinguish fires on four floors.

Most of the structure is gutted, District Chief Terry Hardy said.

State contractors are slated to implode the 17-story building at 1732 Canal St. on July 22. State officials in charge of the demolition, which is part of the process of building a new state teaching hospital in Mid-City, have not announced a precise time for the event.

Sections of Interstate 10 and Claiborne Avenue have been closed to prevent motorists from getting near the fire

Also, just moved to New Orleans and have been following the forum. Enjoy all the updates!

World Trade Center

Just out of curiosity, back in March the Landrieu administration said the City would seek proposals for the World Trade Center redevelopment by mid-year.
Well that has come and gone. Has anyone heard a peep about this?

Yeah I work in here....I don't know what they're up to. I didn't know anything about the "canopy and streetscape" work and I'm a bit puzzled by what they're doing on 14....It was just a wall of windows behind the concierege desk so i can't think of any other uses....

On a side note, I'm obsessed with "St Charles Noodle" in the food court.....love the pho'. Anyway, the work should be interesting

Pretty disappointed......My friend used to work there and said she wouldn't recommend it... I've never personally been to the existing one in the 100 block of Royal but I asked her if my perception of it being a shitty tourist trap was correct and she said "absolutely." So why are they putting one in the heart of Uptown? Who knows... Maybe they'll have good drink specials, that's about all the hope I have left for this..

Coincidentally I took this picture the other day of the progress...it's bland but oh well, better than the vacant lot it was.
(oh it's at Napoleon near Ochsner Baptist)
