I'd prefer if they were built to the property line and removed the sidewalk-edge greenspace, but units are units and density is density. Not building to the property line just makes them feel more suburban.

The three new buildings will really improve the neighbourhood. All three are replacing older run down properties. More people living downtown, density, and higher tax revenue than what was there before.

Here is a good photo from Retail Talk & Share showing where the new apartment building above is going to be built.

The Main St starbucks was totally cleared out today, tables, chairs, kitchen equipment. The unit is now essentially bare inside now.

Moncton shouldn't feel picked on by Starbucks moves. It's mostly been downtown storefront locations in North America that have been closed. For example, in another thread, I noticed that the only downtown Starbucks location in London ON closed too, and London is 3x the size of Moncton. In other words, it's nothing personal. Sad yes, but purely a corporate decision that had nothing to do with the Moncton market.

The Starbucks two blocks from me in downtown closed last week (there just happens to be three more within an equidistant walk ). Starbucks' closures were announced earlier this summer.

Freshii in the Higgins Block downtown appears closed. The windows are papered over, and there are "for lease" signs up.

The pandemic chickens are coming home to roost, and, the summer street closure on Main Street probably did not help either..........

Can't say this one surprises me. I don't imagine there'd be much business for them over the winter.

I wonder if Fusion Commercial Properties will now pivot and convert the upper floors to residential instead of office space. This pandemic has not been good for their investment so far.

Just reading the comments on Retail Talk and Share about Freshii closing. Apparently there is a rumour that they're moving to a new location somewhere around the Vaughan Harvey Sobeys.

Two possible locations:

1) - old GoodLife for Women in the Sobeys plaza
2) - Tannery Place South.

My bet is on the old GoodLife.

I wouldn't know anything about the rent in either place, but I'd guess the old Goodlife location would be less expensive than Tannery place.

Don’t forget that spot at 1111 Main that advertised as a great spot for a restaurant.

Retail Talk & Share is reporting a new tenant for Tannery Place South (in addition to Sequoia) - YUZU Sushi.

https://yuzusushi.ca/en/?fbclid=IwAR...4BhRD7n35gWRZs

The store appears stylish!

This appears to be a very large chain with locations all over Quebec, and in northern NB

If Freshii moves to Tannery Place South in addition to Sequoia and Yuzu, this would go a long way to filling the commercial space in this building - good stuff!

I noticed there was a hockey game at the Avenir centre so I pulled over and snapped this photo of a somewhat busy spot.

Not exactly my sharpest image, but whatever! :-)

The map below indicates the location of four apartment projects in the neighbourhood, either under construction or nearing construction:

One - Under construction, now working on floor three

Two - Under construction, excavating for foundation and underground parking

Three - Under construction, excavating for foundation and underground parking

Four - Construction likely next year, one house left on site, likely to be demolished soon.

Was posted on FB retail talk group that Mrs Dunster’s bakery will be opening a new 37,000 square foot bakery located on St. George Blvd

The new 37,000 sqare foot bakery, located on St. George Blvd. in Moncton, will focus on baking fresh baked breads, rolls, pastries and pizza shells for grocery stores and restaurants across the Maritimes and Maine and frozen baked goods to stores across Canada. A future phase of the project includes plans to open a Mrs. Dunster’s retail store at the same location.

Interesting announcement. Where would one build a 37,000sqft building on St. George Blvd? Out by Organigram?

It will be in the former General Motors building, close to the Centennial Park entrance. It's under construction now and there'll be about 60 employees working there when they open.
