The 17th/18th and York site has had all of its existing buildings completely demolished a couple of days ago. Looks like they're now clearing the site and will probably remove the huge mature trees that sat between the old buildings.

I'm glad Denver Parks are taking a more aggressive stand against the drug use at Commons Park. I don't know why they created that hill in the middle of the park in the first place. Did they have a huge amount of dirt from some other part of the project or from one of the original adjacent building projects they didn't want to haul away? I have a degree in Landscape Architecture and one of my pet peeves is creating artificial topography like this hill for no reason. I think it is much better to let the natural topography of the site dictate the design. To make it worse they put a recessed sundial thingy at the top that is not visible from below, practically inviting people to engage in illicit activity there. What did they think would happen? There are ALWAYS transients and pot heads in there. I have also seen first hand junkies shooting up under the pedestrian bridge. I think an easy fix there would be some very obvious security cameras to scare them off.

The sound feature at the top of the hill was really neat when the park first opened. Not sure how many people nowadays have ever even stood in the middle of it and heard the echo, given that it's become a hang-out for unsavory types of late. Also, the view from the top makes it a great place to sit - you'll often see people lined all along the top of the hill. Much like the criticisms of the 16th Street Mall - I do not think the fact that users are abusing a public space means it is inherently badly designed. (Just like taking the mall shuttles off the mall will not solve homelessness.)

There are updated renderings of 999 17th St. on the Davis Partnership website. They are slightly different from the ones that were posted on DI around a year ago. I can not get this pictures to post if someone else wants to give it a try.

Here is the link:http://davispartnership.com/projects/999-seventeenth-street-2/

Nice rendering! I'd be very excited to see this project get the green light. What are odds that this breaks ground in the next 2 years? 80%?

Typically, what has to happen for it to go from conception to actuality?

Also I forget who has the drone but think we could get another shot like this one?

I went out last night to try and get a similar perspective but I struggled due to the FAA height limit of 400ft. The photo that you attached was taken with significantly higher altitude. I will see if I an start with a higher vantage point in Highlands to get an extra couple of hundred feet.

Here's those renderings from the Davis site for 999 17th St. That roof deck pool looks awesome!

Thank you. I am a stickler for the 400ft rule for two reasons; firstly the FAA have people whose job it is to see who is posting images taken from above 400ft and prosecuting them, and secondly i love to fly a 1949 De Havilland Chipmunk with the roof open on warm summer evenings at 500ft. Would not want to meet me coming the other way.

Confluence from above

To complement Ryan's excellent brooding evening shots of the Confluence crane, here is the plan view from 400 ft above taken earlier that evening.

A very good point- it's just a matter of time before drone operators who don't heed the FAA regulations lead to the reinterpretation of the phrase, "drone strike".

Great shots! I look at them and recall an old, old, old rendering that was done of the CPV when E/W first announced Riverfront Park somewhere around 2000. It's somewhat neat to see that rendering come to life.

Very nice. Does anyone know what the site review and permit status is for the project? My old log numbers don't seem to work anymore even when I use the new format.
