Wasn't this a grocery store at one point? Wonder what it would take to kick out the existing tenants.
You'd probably have to buy the space as the Vineyard Church owns the space and operate the church from there. I think the commercial/industrial mini-mall to the rear of this site would be an okay place.

McAllister Place sent me an email this afternoon to do a survey with them. One of the questions was:

Which, if any, of the following stores would bring you to McAllister Place to shop? If you don’t know enough about the store to evaluate it please select “I don’t know enough about this store to evaluate it.”

Bath & Body Works
Jacob
Eddie Bauer
H&M
Quilts Etc.
Tommy Hilfiger

Yes No I don’t know enough about this store to evaluate it

Perhaps more stores are in the mix for McAllister Place to go with their recent renovation?

Construction of Law Courts Building Underway

Phase one of construction of the $50 million dollar Law Courts on the former YM-YWCA site on Hazen Avenue is underway.

The contract has been awarded to Bird Construction for just over $6.3 million dollars. Premier Shawn Graham says he is very excited about this project.

Graham adds 450 jobs will be created during the construction of the new law courts. The building is scheduled to be open by 2012.

Murdoch and Boyd Architects designed the new Law Courts building and Greg Murdoch tells CHSJ News, he is very happy with the final design which they have been working on for the past four years, 150,000 square feet and six stories high.

The building will also feature among other things, 13 court-rooms, a barristers lounge and sheriff services.

They do not have any other choice, the twelve french-speacking citizens left in SJ would be offended and could threatening to move to Dieppe.

Sight... things will never change in NB.

I actually prefer the french term.

Palace of Justice has a much more mighty ring to it than courthouse or Law Courts.

Reminds me of that episode of The Simpsons where Mensa takes over the city. To encourage people to show up for jury duty, they sent out a letter to the tune of:

"You have been invited to join the Justice Squadron. 8 AM Monday at the Municipal Fortress of Vengeance."

I understand that they have to have it, but it just makes it seem less important if they have to have it twice. It's kind of like announcing goals at Sea Dogs games; It's really exciting to hear the English and first goal call, and after that the French call is just a boring repetition of the same thing, as if there are people present that don't understand English.

We should try and get a sign up on the fencing around the construction site for this new title!

Hi everyone
I am bringing up an older post but thought everyone should know the real reason Irving is not building on long wharf.
It was the lack of progress with the city. This is fact. Not the classy response from the Irving's.
Things need to be changed at city hall!!!

Cheers!

The offices that were to be built on Long Wharf were to be the offices for the Second Oil Refinery. The fact that the Refinery was not built meant that the offices for said Refinery did not need to be built as well.

Also Irving never addressed the issues of the sea wall itself. One look at Long Wharf and it's obvious that it can't handle storm surges. Take yesterday for example, at high tide the waves were cresting over the top of the wharf - how's that going to be a good thing of a $20-$30 million dollar office building if it's got salt water washing in the front doors every time there's a storm? The wharf needed to be raised to the height of the Hilton's, but I guarantee that would have at least doubled the cost of the project rather easily. If the consultants told Fort Reliance that, I bet it was a factor in ditching the proposal as well.

RE: The IOL HQ

I liked the wording of the Fort Reliance press release cancelling the HQ project. I really think they will be announcing soon a cheaper alternative to the Long Wharf location. They didn't say in the release that the economics of IOL have changed, but the economics of the project. Perhaps they will purcahse a large office building that was formerly the HQ for a local telecom...

The Irving Oil group is spread all over the city. The plan was to bring them all under one roof. The second refinery was a small factor but not the deciding factor.
Ever since the "Big Break Up" they have been scrambling for office space.
They also knew what they were in for at Long Wharf. This had little bearing on this decision.
The real problem is with the City Management (or lack of). This is one reason that Moncton does well.
The city screwed up before....this is why Irving Paper went to Moncton and not an expansion at "Simms Corner"!
This city needs to wake up!!

The Simms Corner Pulp & Paper mill is a losing investment. Expanding it seems like a waste of time and money at this point. Aswell, Irving Paper went to Moncton because they print all of their newspapers out of there, and figured that we didn't need two printers at the telegraph journal anymore. It's a crime against humanity, but it's something we're all used to dealing with on a daily basis.

Also, all of the in-fighting between JDI & IOL isn't helping much.
