No pictures, but the Fredericton Target store seems to be a week or two behind the Moncton as far as prep goes. They're down to 3 PODs and most of the fencing is down now. The doors are still papered and the Starbucks sign isn't up yet (if we get one). Inside, it looks like most of the painting and a bunch of the shelving is up, as well as the cash register stands. We could probably pull off a mid October to mid November opening fairly easily.

Exterior work has been delayed slightly due to all the wet weather in Freddy. Noticed that they were painting the exterior on Sunday as well. Probably a "catch-up day"

Drove by there tonight and you can see the Starbucks sign through the paper up over the doors/windows.

Any idea how long it takes to stock a store once the construction is complete? Assume similar to Costco...about a week?

It really depends, you can not compare Costco to Target.. Depends on how many people they have working to do that. Costco is much larger store and has larger products.. So I would "Assume" I use that term lightly. Less time than Costco

I'd assume the opposite. The number of different items Costco stocks would be a fraction of what a Target would have. I would think it would take longer to set up because you have a much larger number of items, many of which are much smaller.

I suppose costco had the help of fork lifts so they would move along pretty fast... I dont know we have to ask our friend after its all said and done and see if its correct

PS I heard opening date was going to be November 12th

It will be interesting to see what comes of these meetings. The exhibition grounds have a lot of potential.

I don't know if anyone else here was at it, but I attended the Open House for Main street last night and tossed my own two cents in on what to do with it.

A lot of interesting ideas came from the 4 workgroups overall.

Some of the highlights included:

* Improving trail connections, both from the Canada Trail and the River Trail.
* Improved sidewalks/pedestrian routes. Break up the acres of parking lots and provide ways to bring the pedestrians across them easier.
* Better branding for Main street in general. (Sort've like the Mall District or Town Plat )
* Encouraging more pedestrian friendly businesses in general; bring in more cafes and bars and such.
* Better link the two recreation hubs (Loyalist Field/Dog Park to the new Park/Ballfields in behind the school near the Superstore); make the trail between the two better defined, especially behind the Superstore.

My own two cents was about the Canadian Tire lot. I consider the existing building a lost cause, so looked at what the lot could do.

With consideration for Fred Rock, it might be nice to see that developed as an entertainment hub. Encourage some bars and cafes that can play/feature local music close to the road (both Main St and the Street leading to the fields) and basically let Fred Rock help it build into North Side's version of the Harvest festival.

Another variant of that idea was to encourage the North side market to come down off the hill and develop that area as a market place, once again with cafes and such around the fringe to encourage pedestrian use.

It was also mentioned that the city should update the tax structure to discourage vacant lot holding; make it more punitive to hold onto it for a long time without developing.

We gave the committee lots of food for thought I'm sure. Some of the stuff would be difficult or impossible to pull off, but there were a lot of ideas that should be doable.

Re: Canadian Tire Property

Interestingly, the last rumour I heard about the Main St. Canadian Tire location was actually an indoor recreation/training facility. From what I heard there was a group actively pursuing sports clubs for partnership (through memberships or bookings) to determine feasiblity of such a venture. I think their vision included gyms, weight rooms, etc. I haven't heard anymore since early summer.

I do think there would be a market for this although I think the Frex's plans might take a bite out of that. I do know that the UNB dome is booked solid through the winter though.
