See! Variety in design! This building looks great, like something from Los Angeles or Berlin. I hope we have more diversified styles like this coming down the developmental pipelines!

What about that "looks great?" And as for variety, it looks just like that ugly condo building at the corner of Boulevard and Freedom Parkway.

People have different taste. I find the building you're referencing to be very nice as well as the rendering I posted. I can appreciate other types of architecture as well.

Midtown Construction Update

Greetings all!

I've produced another Midtown Construction video including the Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites, 77 12th St & Skyhouse. It can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHazl3vjCAY&feature=youtu.be

PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS:
* The Skyhouse parking deck is large and rather imposing and takes most of the building footprint. Not from W. Peachtree St, rather drive/walk down Spring St. to see what I mean.
* 77 12th will add great street level retail.
* They are really on Skyhouse. 1st to market, 1st to bank?
* HGI/HS rooms should have really nice views, esp. of GA Tech/West Midtown. When they finally "cap the connector" in 2112, this will be a perfect parkfront hotel!

This is a very cool, urban, and modern apartment. I wish there were more on this style.

To each his/her own. I'm just up for some variety apart from all blue-glass clad buildings.

Previously I was already in the far right lane and now I am several lanes over and need to get over in seconds, all while cars are coming to get left to get on Hammond.

It's made worse by the many cars coming from the east who are in the far right lane which was always meant to be a lane to get in to Ravinia only, but they treat as a lane to cut the other lanes.

It's a mess. There are brief periods where the east traffic has a red light, but it's brief, most of the time it's everyone going everywhere.

I do wonder: can you turn left on red from the ramp now since you're not crossing any traffic in the opposite direction? I know in Georgia, like most states, you can turn left on red at two one-way streets, but I wonder if this is considered one-way for the purpose of expediting traffic flow? Or are there signs specifically stating so?

thanks much for the nice video - I've never noticed the vertical darker blue stripes on Skyhouse - I know it's Novare cookie cutter but I don't think it's that bad (except for the parking - ugh)

Wow, that is one hideous parking structure. I didn't realize it was that bad.

You're welcome! I'll be producing more videos over the next few weeks.

Skyhouse could be MUCH worse. I personally like the building itself, it's the parking deck that bothers me. I hope they cover it up with some foliage. The view from Spring St is dominated by the parking deck.

If Walmart would stop having the lowest prices then people would stop shopping there...it doesn't matter how awful the buildings are or how good/bad the company is. What matters the most to most people is how much money they have to spend - hence the store's popularity.

I don't mind Walmart locating at Lindbergh, but I hope something is done about the awful design. This area needs an urban Walmart - they do exist.

Buckhead Atlanta???

Any update on this eyesore? The so-called redevelopment has been postponed so many times it is getting comical. As a novelist might say, "when is the earth going to move?"

Nice publicity for BB&T Atlanta Open and AS in New York Times. Really was a great move to bring this tennis tournament to the middle of the city. Both players and fans enjoyed the setting with skyscrapers in the background. I heard ticket sales were 150%+ compared to last year.

Tennis Gets an Uptown Updating in Atlanta

In its two previous years, the tournament was tucked away in separate country club environments on the northern arc, the core of Atlanta’s tennis community. The city fancies itself as the capital of grass-roots and adult-league tennis, but its legions of participants seemed disinclined to go watch the pros. The tournament’s nomadic ways did not help to advance awareness.

Bryant sensed that plunking the matches into this milieu would create a buzz, luring the curious along with the die-hards. Having honed his event-promoting chops with the Ringling Bros. circus, he had no trouble envisioning tennis with an unusual backdrop.
