Yeah, though Quebec City's "Crown" is no slouch either.

But I find that neighbourhood streets like Avenue Cartier in Quebec City are better than any in Ottawa. Thinking of Rideau and Bank in particular, and even Ottawa's "best" which is arguably Richmond through Westboro.

One of the best photos and one of the best angles of the skyline yet. There's just so much going on, so many layers.

Train tracks + Bell Center will make that hard to happen. Maybe that 50-storeys project on Lucien-L'Allier, or will it just be in front of TDC ?

It's a great "busy" skyline photo. There's a little bit of everything there.

Isn't there a plan by C.N to cover up the tracks and build towers above it?

^If you're talking about plans to build atop Central Station then yes, it would cover that "gap", and due to its location could easily become the city's new tallest building.

However there are currently no plans to build there. Everybody knows though that it's only a matter of time before someone decides to build there. It's just too strategic.

Can it be because I don't confuse internet skyline photos with an interesting city?

I should probably go to ______ instead of Berlin: _______ has a much better skyline!

Or..

Can you guys recommend a tinfoil construction helmet that can make me appreciate the awesomeness of internet skyline photos? - without having to actually go to the boring city associated with the skyline photos?

Can I just head to the outskirts, take a picture of the skyline, avoid the boring city?

I would hate to confuse a great skyline with an interesting city, as I did with Houston.

It sucks when you go to a city with a 'great skyline' and that city ends up being a boring piece of shit.

Sidewalks rolled up after..

But at least you can look at the skyline - if you drive back to a skyline viewable spot.

This boring city/ 'great' skyline thingy has me so confused..

Do people actually yearn for cities based on internet skyline photos or do they yearn based on other, less sophisticated reasons? (Skylines, urban canyons being top of the heap as far as fascinating cities are concerned).

It's all so confusing..

I literally just got back from Chicago a few hours ago and that Winnipeg pic looks surprisingly familiar. It really is American looking.

Caltrane has some competition. See, you don't need mountains of the rock and ice sense to enhance a skyline.

Winnipeg reminded me a lot of Indianapolis.

Not sure what 'American-looking' means. I suspect you mean that it went through its growth spurt 1880-1930 and had little French-Canadian influences. Having lived in Montreal I noticed a Quebec tendency to view their own surroundings and culture as the template and anything that diverges from it as 'American'.

Having been to both Winnipeg and Montreal I found both to be stereotypically north American. They only diverged in that one is older than the other. The built form of each spoke to the era in which much of it was built.

It's just an impression some people have... it doesn't have to "mean" anything.

Montréal is the most American city with its street grid. Like NY-Phila. NE .
