Agreed. The old Plaza sign looked better and more in keeping with the building (maybe I'm just used to it). The new one looks like it's 1987, Glass Tiger has a hit on the radio, and someone is imagining 1997 when Robocop is enforcing the law.

I don't recall if this was posted at some point (I don't remember seeing it anyways). Future corner of Granville/Georgia:

Also, has this proposal at 1255 W. Pender been discussed on here?

(all my photos, taken today)

Edit: Changed corner (thanks SpongeG)

looks good though - much better than what is has been that corner is so lifeless considering all the people who walk past it all the time

Not related to development, but it was AWESOME to see so many people downtown today after the parade. Hundreds of thousands of people. Robson was pretty much all closed to cars, and there were tens of thousands of people walking down the street, going in to shops, restaurants, etc. It was a cool atmosphere. If that's what the Olympics will be like, it will be awesome

The Bay

This is a pretty minor one in the grand scheme of things, but The Bay has done repaired and painted their awnings!

My camera phone photo, taken December 6th.

Yay repairs and paint!

OT again, but did I miss something... why doesn't Science Centre light up at night anymore?

The Bay is looking better than it has in decades but maybe that's not saying a lot.

It's a nice building, but, is it wrong of me to think they should keep it permanently wrapped with *something* ?

Science World? It's being redone with LEDs. I expect it will be capable of more interesting lighting when the work is complete.

A little paint on the Bay awnings will make a huge difference IMO. Glad to see that it's coming along - or is it finished on every side now?

I agree, and so do my parents. My Dad grew up here and my mom's been here since the mid 70s and both say it's the best the building has ever looked.

Cool, thanks for the pic!

If I recall correctly, 1255 West Pender was proposed a while back after the proposal to demolish or build on top of the Evergreen Building was abandoned (in favour or restoration). Unless this is a new proposal for the same site.

May be its on the same circuit as the awning part being fixed.

Reaaaaaaaallllly? I went past there and just thought they were trying to offset some of Vancouver's Carbon Footprint to earn our Green City slogan. I hope by interesting lighting you mean that the lights are multi colored and could vary depending on the mood science is in.

^I hope so. It could be like a much smaller version of the Yas Island Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

Wouldnt it be cool if they would install those water jet fountains in the water and have cool lighting shows in the water just by stadium/science world/olympic village. Kinda like the ones in Vegas or Dubai. That would be neat for night time.

After a while of being dark I noticed Science World was lit up again, this time with the new LEDs. I must say, it looks pretty sharp! I'll get a pic tomorrow after work on my way down to the tree lighting at the VAG lawn. Elvis Costello is gonna be there!

No no no! Too many heritage buildings in this city have been shamelessly covered up. The bay building is quite a nice building when it's cleaned up and I'm sure after a while the covering would just get dirty and grimy and look a lot like the Sears building.
Just my thoughts!
