Looking towards the south, Aqua dwrafs everything in LSE. And the Lowenberg renderings look too cartoonish, but good find STR.

It is exciting clean crisp and wonderful! Hopefully they will not go shotty on the building materials.

If Low-end-berg has any involvement in that or any other aspect of this building's design, then the whole project is fc****kkkkkeeeeddddd. Imagine the beautiful Jeanne Gang design soaring in the sky....atop a Lowenberg approved sh*t base of pre-cast...in "buff" color.

Jeez. And Regatta, and Chandler ...

It's ok for them to stick those in their portfolio, but the way they present 4 extra images of each suggests they are showcasing their design of the appearance of the building. Basically a lie, since other firms were design architects for those, and L was just doing whatever project architects do (construction drawings / engineering / code compliance, etc., I believe).

I wonder if they are planning on using precast concrete floors to make the curved shapes or if they are going to use cast in place. That would be a nightmare to have to change the forms for every floor. Even with precast floors, detailing them out on the shop drawings would be interesting with all the different radiuses and such.

Anyone have any specifics on that part of it yet, or still too early.

They were talking about using a GPS system to guide the forms, so I presume that means cast-in-place concrete.

It is a cast-in-place building. Another interesting thing I've heard is that the floors will be framed with "flyers" or "flying tables". For those that don't know, flyers are huge sections of formwork that travel as a unit. So all the scaffold, joists, stringers, plywood...etc. are constructed and fastened together permanently. The unit is pulled out of the side of the building and flown to the top to begin framing the next floor.

Here's the best picture I can find at the moment. The guys from emporis may have a few nice shots of this type of stuff in action.

A few articles now have mentioned that there will also be office space in Aqua. Is this true? Nobody has mentioned how much. Maybe I've been reading it wrong

^ ??? I don't think so. I thought they were claiming 1st condo, apartment, hotel, and retail mixed-use project, but I didn't catch anything about offices.

No offices in the tower, but a minor portion of the podium will be office space.

Anyone have any images/ideas of how Aqua will look from the south/southwest? I noticed that the Blue Cross building is conspicuously absent from the sales center's model.

I don't think there is another individual structure in Chicago that can claim all of that.

^ Sure enough. There seems to be a lot of Bertrand Goldberg in this tower - not just in the appearance, but also in concept. This was his dream, of course, although he had different reasons for dreaming it.
