avenue district

is the building really abandoned or is that hyperbole? i saw listings on real estate sites up until a few months ago and assumed they were selling, just the following phases were on hold.

Not sure if it is abandoned. I thought there were still 6 condo owners or so, but if there is as much water damage as that PD article listed, it would be unlikely that anyone is in those condos.

I actually drove by The Avenue District this evening. The building looked mostly empty, but there there were a few lights on. So it looks like there are some people still living there.

It seems like that area has some good potential. Hopefully things will get resolved and more of those units will be sold, etc.

I hope so too dar. That original design was beautiful and well planned. Not only that its just a few blocks away from CSU so it could have been one of the first off-campus college areas for graduates. Unfortunately now that its in court and bankruptcy is an issue, I don't see this thing going forward for years. Maybe by then someone will come along with enough financing and decide to finish the job. Sometimes I wish the city would intervene in situations like this instead of sitting to the side. Make this a public issue and try to get some resolution to it so the city doesn't suffer!

The Avenue District condo building is NOT in any way abandoned. Only a handful of the units are occupied, but it's far from abandoned.

Does anyone know if construction has resumed on the Flats East Bank?? And if it hasnt, then when it is supposed to start back up?? Last thing I remember reading is that financing had been secured and they were going to start back there sometime in January. So now that it's officially February I figured we should start to see some signs of work begin done!!

A recent Yahoo! article included Cleveland as one of the "visionary" cities of the future (#4):

http://travel.yahoo.com/p-interests-...rests-37533159

What I find funny is one of the cities (#3) is on there for free public internet, yet Akron and Brooklyn have already begun that experiment themselves:
http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/ind..._in_cleve.html

And the #9 city is praised for its public transit designs which look very similar to Euclid corridor (probably where we got the idea). Glad to see our city is actually on the cutting edge of efficiency and visionary design!

Yes, construction has resumed but it's still in the "site prep" phase - there's a crew there that is essentially building the foundations for the office tower and hotel.

... and the buildings near MOCA are gonna be great. i can't believe those lots sat there for so many years as UCI parking. and now, after the crappiest recession ever, they'll finally become something.

i'd love to see some action on E 105 between euclid and the rapid station. fairfax is a little rough but a lot of whats left near cedar has potential; some really great turn-of-the-cetury-rusbelt architecture still exists.

go cleveland!

Next big one: The $350 million "temporary" casino the historic Higbee Building....renovations should start in the next 1-2 months.

Cheers to yet another groundbreaking!!

I was visiting my brother in Raleigh for New Years and noticed how much construction that city had going on in its downtown area and I thought to myself "Why can't my city be growing like this?". Now I can say it is in fact growing quite quickly. With so much construction and new projects on the rise I hope this city can ride this growth into a few more projects and keep the momentum going! Next on the list: the Second Phase in the Flats and some re-designing of public space in Downtown:

http://blog.cleveland.com/architectu...ommissi_1.html

I would still love to see that "blob" proposal go through for Public Square. But at the same point I'm not picky, I just love seeing construction signs again!

It's been good to hear that construction has started on the East Bank, Cleveland Aquarium and the Medical Mart & Convention center. I'm also looking forward to seeing something done with Public Square. It'll be interesting to following these projects as they move along and to see some pics of their progress!!!

I found a web cam pic of the construction progress from the Medical Mart website. Not too exciting (yet), but progress is progress!!!

Thanks for the pic MayDay!!! Hopefully with some warmer weather on its way (even though it's actually snowing right now) we'll see more and more noticeable progress on the Flats East Bank site.

warhouse district

anyone here heard any news about the warehouse district plans? after the bob stark thing went sour i remember reading an article about weston inc and gilbane development going about similar plans for the block on superior. but this was early 2009 and i haven't seen anything since.

the new plans looked similarly ambitious compared to the original.
