Lol, you guys are too possessive to your daughters just like moms are to their youngest sons.
That's because you don't like to grow older...

Don't be selfish and let your kids have their own love stories. You had your own when you were teens, right?
Moreover, daddy is no prince charming to daughter, eh.
The prince charming is somebody else, younger.

You think you've got it bad? Spare a thought for the girls' mother - that's who bears the brunt of the craziness.

So how is everyone's summer holidays going? Any camps or activities planned? My 4 year old starts his first swim classes next week. I'm feeling a little nervous but excited. Just a had a 4 day staycation and it was the most fun and relaxing time that I've had since the kids were born. Went to the zoo, our lake, saw family and had a lovely brunch and movie date with my wife sans children to celebrate our anniversary.

Took the ladies (wife and two daughters, yes all identify as female and would have no problem with this label) to NYC for a week and had a great time! Now a bit of time at home and some camping in August. Hockey camp for both kids the week after next to get ready for September!

Sounds like a nice summer so far!

We have a summer routine more or less which I expect will remain in place until the kids become teenagers and they start doing their own thing. We started the summer with a weekend in Northwestern Ontario, and since then there has been a mishmash of day camps close to home, and me/my wife taking days off to spend with the kids. We will be going on vacation for a couple weeks starting on the August long weekend so I'm looking forward to that, it will be our first overseas trip since before the pandemic.

We've squeezed in a few day trips out of the city too which has been fun, and we will head to Western Manitoba to visit family later in August.

My kids are not currently enrolled for swimming lessons... demand for that vastly exceeds supply in Winnipeg so it is challenging to maintain any kind of consistency in that area. I'd like to get them back into that.

It's been good so far... it's hard to believe that July is almost over.

I’ve got a full pass for Calgary Folk Fest this week. Are you going at all?
Will be dancing with my 3 month old.
Lower priority for stage proximity and high volumes of beer consumption this year

Then off to Nova Scotia and PEI for a summer trip starting next week. I need it. I haven’t taken any parental leave yet, or any holidays since January. The burnout is real.

Went to Calypso last week with the wife and kids, brought a couple of their friends. Unlike last year, I didn't burn myself to a crisp.

Plenty of East-Ontarian and West Quebec 'tattooed-to-the-hilts' ladies present.

^ I was planning a summer vacation to Ottawa/Montreal/Quebec next year. Somehow my kids have become aware of Calypso and want to go. Do you recommend it? I am not a huge fan of waterparks in general

Look you assholes, I became a dad at 29, and again at 32. Two well behaved boys that are admittedly hooked on the computers I built for them. Mom hates their electronic dependancies, she wants to throw all electronics to the curb.. every day. The internet is metered because they can't control themselves. They'd be on screens all day. No attention spans whatsoever.

Anyway, what was I talking about?

congrats, you've created E-monsters
My Dad used to hide the nintendo controllers or the keyboard/mouse. My brother's Civilization addiction was bad in the 90s.
I guess metering the internet works better today.

Did you at least feed them some Vachon brand ah Louis cakes yet?

It is fun, but it is $$$$ if you are not prepared.

My advice - go on a weekday, and bring lots of sunscreen.

Don't eat there, bring a cooler with your own food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Maybe treat the kids to ice cream before you leave (reasonable prices)

Don't drown in the wave pool.

Agree with Harls. Definitely go if your kids are interested and you are in the Ottawa-Montreal areas. The same company operates the large Valcartier waterpark near Québec City. Similar concept.

Interesting... I did not know about the one near Quebec. I'll have to look into that one as an option... thanks.

I may shit on Edmonton a lot but the water park in West Ed is still awesome!

There's not really any outdoor waterparks in Calgary anymore. Our last one (Banzai Waterpark) closed in the 90's. Closest one left is in Sylvan Lake a 1.5 hour drive away.
