The City of Kyle is considering on hiring the Boring Co. to build a short pedestrian tunnel under a railroad line to connect two developments.

"The Kyle City Council was scheduled on April 19 to potentially approve the professional services agreement with Boring, according to council documents, but officials said that discussion will be delayed. The pedestrian underpass would stretch under the Union Pacific Railroad tracks south of Kyle Parkway/Farm to Market 1626. The company laid out a nine-step plan as part of the engineering process that would total $50,000 in costs and include a site visit, engineering studies and a delivered report.

"The pedestrian underpass will accommodate multimodal transportation options both slow and fast moving, including electric vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians," a preliminary engineering report stated. "The pedestrian underpass will connect people from the region to encourage multimodal movement to leisure and outdoor activities and integrate into the urban environment. The surrounding area will connect to a destination park, adjacent professional offices, dining, and retail options."

It's a short distance from tunnels to in-ground pools. Just saying.

lol This is definitely not to scale. The Google Tower is 594 feet, and the Giga Factory is listed as 3,826 feet. Math.

The Boring Company (TBC) announced that it raised $675 million in a Series C funding round led by Vy Capital and Sequoia Capital, with participation from Valor Equity Partners, Founders Fund, 8VC, Craft Ventures, and DFJ Growth.

The financing values The Boring Company at $5.675 billion. TBC stated that the funds will be used to recruit employees, scale boring machine production, and build tunnels.

Boring Company sounds dumb now, but it'll make billions once the surface of the planet becomes too hot and we're all forced to live underground.

Destination dining? It's all fast food. Maybe there's going to be more built soon.

Does UPRR know about this? You can't just cross their ROW (above, at surface or below) without a license agreement, and they don't hand them out like candy.

Best of luck to them, but Austin couldn't get the Bowie street underpass of the UPRR done with millions of dollars and decades of negotiation with UP. I wouldn't put money on them.

Could an underground tunnel by The Boring Company come to Austin?

City development officials met with officials in Las Vegas to better understand underground transportation tunnels like the ones in Sin City.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Ten employees with the City of Austin's Development Services Department (DSD) flew to Las Vegas earlier this week to meet with representatives from The Boring Company, the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) and their Clark County, Nevada, development counterparts.

The purpose, according to a spokesperson for the DSD, was to "understand best practices for permitting subgrade [underground] mobility infrastructure."
