I was just talking to a friend who started driving for Lyft. He said it is very busy and that he's earning $25 per hour. He was fine with that as it's a second income to pass the time. It all depends on what you're accustomed to earning.

Is that 25 bucks after expenses? I think most of the cab drivers make a lot less than that. All the cab drivers might start jumping ship

The guy on CBC said he made $100 over 3 hours.

I think you'd be lucky to net $18-20/hr after expenses. But there's plenty to write off, so you might keep almost all of that money. Not bad for the skills required, and if you like driving around, why not?

I have considered it as I drive an EV and my marginal cost would be low. But that Class 4 is just an annoying barrier to entry, lol. We'll see what drivers start making during surge pricing. That might tempt me.

If I was a Surrey taxpayer I’d be furious about that waste of tax dollars. Is there a mechanism to recall a mayor as there is with an MLA? McCallum has been a disaster.

No that's about what cab drivers clear (I use them all the time and have asked many times) and that's why they want cash instead of credit any little bit cheating the tax man or the car owner helps.

The hilarious part of all this is how it draws out the instant experts who brag about they've never used a taxi but 'know all about it'-typical internet dorks.

Cab driver recorded shouting racial slur at pedestrian in Burnaby



BURNABY -- Tiffany Yee was fearful for her life when a walk with her dog turned into a scary encounter with a taxi driver.

The alleged incident happened Friday before 6 p.m. in a north Burnaby neighbourhood.

Yee says she saw a Bonny's Taxi driver speeding towards a stop sign and said she was worried he wouldn't stop in time.

"He slammed on his brakes and they were screeching. Me and Lucky crossed the street and that's when I looked at him and asked him to slow down," she told CTV News.

The cabbie didn't drive away immediately, Yee said. Instead, he opened his door and began to shout profanities at her.

"He took a step out, and I was scared that he was going to come towards me, so I took out my phone in case I needed to call 911. That's when he started swearing some more and then he yelled a racial slur," she said.

There are these types of pathetic losers everywhere unfortunately. The problem with the taxi industry is they dont do anything about it. Will this cabbie be fired? Doubtful.

Looking at Uber sometimes it ends up cheaper than Evo. Not bad for taking the stress out of a drive home.

For some people, driving is a relaxing, no-brainer activity. If so, I think that's a reasonable wage. For the rest of us who rage and swear at other cars, maybe not, haha.

the drivers keep 75% of the fare. I know a few people in the states who do it full time in the states, I didn't realize it paid so well, I thought it was a side gig for people.

A friend from grad school in Toronto drove Uber for more than a year as he and his wife were saving up to buy a home. He lived in Scarborough and worked downtown and would always pick up a fare heading into work and one heading home. He was driving the route anyway and the fares basically covered the cost of his commute, letting them save more aggressively for their down payment. He also liked the company.

I know disability lifts aren't cheap, I don't see Uber being able to offer this service easily.
