I have to say I'm glad this one isn't taller. It would be even more not to like.

Any word on what's going in the bottom? i.e. restaurants, etc.? I think that area could really be boosted by putting something equivalent to Corner bar at the JW Marriott...

I know people don't like the way this one turned out, but from the back, as part of the skyline, it doesn't look so bad. Taken from the Hilton pool deck:

Everything looks the same color. A dark green reflective glass exterior would have looked great and disguised the blank wall.

I think that it looks good for an ALOFT.

You captured the "good" sides. However, the randem grey verticle strips make me cross eyed. Actually, upon further review, they are not randem, but a repeated pattern. Now I like it even less, and I'm still getting cross eyed. I think I prefer the blank wall after all.

I like this side of the building. It's the other side that I pretend isn't there.

I like the building, reminds me of Seattle. But the blank wall pretty blah, but it is what it is.

I really can't believe yall hate this so much. Liking a building is of course subjective, however it is nice for Austin to get something different.

I think a proper read of the forum is mixed opinions on the quality of materials despite a decent design (outside of the blank walls).

I'll give my opinion on it, which honestly I think is a bit of a mixed bag. I think this will look much better when other buildings are built around it, and it doesn't show off the blank wall so much. But right now, I think it doesn't necessarily look bad.

What I do especially like is that it's on a small footprint. One of the things that I feel separates cities like NYC from cities like Houston is the fact that few of their buildings are built on an entire city block. This has a smaller footprint, and allows for much more density. So I think it's a great step in the right direction as far as not waiting to build until you can build something huge. Although....this might only happen on Congress, where the lot sizes are smaller to begin with...

As more and more of the larger lots are developed, only small lots will remain. Creativity and density will be the answer to those. I'm hopeful that as Austin continues to grow, hopefully that sort of thing will come more and more...

Gotta give 'em credit for designing something that interrelates so well to foot traffic.

They had the incredibly successful JW Marriot to model from.

I just noticed the sign was up on the east side of the building.
