That would ruin the capitol views for most of Austin.

I mean obviously respect the capitol view corridors (except get rid of the I-35 ones), which protect the views that matter.

Yes, thanks for the pictures. I hadn't realized how narrow that mall - the grass part - really is. From the renderings, I got the impression it was larger/wider... I'm an expatriate, living in CA for decades, now. I miss my home town and have forgotten little details, like how narrow that corridor was/is...

Maybe it’s just me, but the slant to the left is killing me.

It's not just you.

In person, without the framing of a photo, it's probably not that bad, but the off-kilter look in pictures makes me squirm.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention that.

It's not really noticeable in person. Or at least it's definitely not something your eyes focus on.

It's a small hill, so it feels natural. I walked this area last week on Wednesday. I hadn't walked this much since I was in Chicago last summer. I walked from North Loop and all the way to South Congress, off by Magnolia's. Made this my main stop and stuck around for about 15min.

Frustrating that the state doesn't WANT to contribute to the train that could drop them off at work from the northern and southern city limits.

We walk thru it many days on a walk. It's a lovely addition to the neighborhood. Will be especially nice when the Blanton is done. It will take a while for the landscape to mature... but it does have a good sense of "place". I think it will get really popular in the spring! And , as a side note, at this point you can't really tell it's there from the Capitol because of the hill at 16th!

Didn't the state allocate funds for the Red Line station downtown? I also seem to recall, possibly incorrectly, that state dollars were going to partially pay for grade separation of the Red Line at N. Lamar.

It may not be much, but it does not seem as though the state is unwilling to contribute to mass transit projects.

Thanks for this -- I saw the fencing on my commute home yesterday and was wondering what was headed to this parking lot.

N Austin Complex Phase II

Quote:
TFC requested and was granted Phase Two funding during the 86th Legislative Session. Design is expected to start in the Spring of 2022 with Construction likely to begin in the Summer of 2023. Phase II consists of a new office building and accompanying above-ground parking. The new building will bring an additional 302,000 square feet of office space and 2,000 parking spaces to the North Austin Complex. At its completion, HHSC and the State will be able to retire all remaining current leases in the Austin area at a savings of $5.6 million annually. As with Phase One, consolidating the leases into state-owned facilities is projected to realize the State a full return on its investment within 38 years. Substantial Completion for Phase II is estimated to be met in Spring 2026.

So cool to see. I update my dad with these photos. He worked there for about 10 years. Retired 9 years ago. He was THE maintenance guy for those buildings. Before that he worked 30 years at IBM. His old places of work are really changing.
