What about SOHO, is it really just a name or are there some interesting areas? Also what about Blackfriars, I understand it's starting to develop?

Maybe a get together is in order but I'm only there next Tues afternoon to Friday night.
Get ready for traffic frustration. Not sure how long since you've been back, but 100 Kellogg would be worth a look. While over there, go across the road and check out the site of the Woodman Ave explosion and see the great job they did at replacing those 4 homes. Dundas basically from Beal to Rectory is pretty depressing with homelessness, same as the corner of Adelaide and Queens in the old Info-Tech building.

Definitely check out the Adelaide underpass, this is probably the biggest change a former Londoner would appreciate. Now when approaching from either direction and you see a train across the road, you don't automatically swear at it.

Based on your past comments, a visit to King and Clarence so you can see what 195 Dundas is. SOHO is a work in progress but it would be worth a drive by just to see what they have done in a pretty short time at the hospital site.

Lots of new as well as familiar restaurants and watering holes on RR.

For driving, remember that Wellington is one lane each way in the south end as well as approaching the river and is closed at Horton into downtown. York is closed between Wellington and Clarence. Highbury is one lane each way north of Dundas to north of Oxford, and Oxford is the same from east of Second through to west of Mornington. And Rectory is closed at the tracks by the fairgrounds, as is Florence east of Egerton. And Dundas is one lane each way east of First if you are venturing that far east.

I'm leaving tonight for vacation, so have fun if some folks decide meet for drinks or something

I'd honestly suggest doing the BRT route. Start at the new Costco, then head north, then east then Highbury, then Oxford. Swing down Clarke,, head back down Dundas towards dt, and follow it all the way in. From there, no idea.

Apparently cell coverage by our Telcos is lacking up around the Airport. Sifton is planning to build alot of Mid and Low-rise buildings and townhouses and single family homes around the Clark and Kilally Rd areas in the future. The Telcos should take note and start planning for adding another Cell tower or two in the area in order to improve service and capacity in the NE corner of London.

What other areas in and around London have weak cell coverage?

It is shitty near where the tracks meet Hyde Park Road. A dead zone.

I lose signals whenever I am out walking here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Hyde+P..._ep=EgoyMDI1MDkxMC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

Say what you may about Elon (and there is much to say), but if the Canadian telecos don't up their game really fast (wireless and fiber), Starlink (and other satellite constellations) may kill them in less than 10 years

every time I make the mistake of reading the LFP, there is a comment from Walt Lonc.

The guy must write 100s of letters to the LFP each year.

Always remember that the LFP is an extension of the National Post. Its clientele tend to be more intolerant, conspiratorial, older, right-wing, and angry. Many have strong opinions on matters they have little actual knowledge of. Many spend far too much time alone, inside, online with social media (and an online reader opinion section of a news service qualifies as such) cooking up theories about why everything is terrible, why those in society who are in authority/expertise are idiots/corrupt, and why if they just did (fill in the blank) everything would be better like in the past.

This is in keeping with the primary mission of the National Post - which is openly campaign in support of conservative politics - and attack all others. Part of that strategy is to paint an ongoing scenario first put forward by Poiliverie on his first day in parliament as opposition leader: everything is broken (and by extension only he and the conservatives can save the nation). So, the Free Press spends inordinate attention on very negative stories such as crime reporting, any possible dysfunction in local govt/organizations, etc. It also paints situations far worse in their headlines than is actually true. Example: one of today's headlines read Looking for a London-area job? It's getting harder, new figures show. This is the sort of thing that people such as Mr.Lonc just lap up and reinforces his and similar folks' notions. They will however wilfully ignore a detail that LFP intentionally buried in the bottom of the story of a quote from someone actually knowledgeable on the matter: She said that while there are fewer job openings in the region, there’s still a healthy number of positions available considering the uncertainty the trade war with the U.S. has created. “There’s still activity happening, and we’re not seeing as much impact as we’re seeing in other regions"

Wait you guys actually read the comments?

Don't bother commenting or wasting your time reading comments. Forum sites like this and Reddit are pretty much the only places I care to take time to read what others are saying.

Regarding the LFP itself- it would be nice to have a competitor for sure but the local news market is shrinking. CBC London and maybe the odd CTV London piece are all we're goona get.

They have whatever disease that possesses some people to affix trucknutz to their pickup trucks, or to roll coal, or to tear up a soccer field or park with their vehicle, or to modify their mufflers to make shotgun sounds, or to race extremely loud motorcycles late at night, or to toss their Rimmie's and McShittie's garbage out their car window (along with a few empties of Bud Light or Laker Lager, for good measure).

Assholery. It is a plague. Heck, one got elected President.

A few thoughts.

There is still a strong possibility that a lot of what you see is just traditional frustrated youth, a la “Rebel Without a Cause”. Problems at home, with a girlfriend, school, or social circles – and that demographic still emotionally grossly unequipped to deal with it. Youth has traditionally struggled with such things for time immortal, and often will take it out with some late night vandalism. So rip up some plants, throw bottles at traffic, graffiti some ugly words. Senseless, but nothing new.

And then there are the guys with the vehicles doing burnouts on the road, doughnuts in a park, modifying their vehicle to be extra loud, and driving like a madman/racing. Young men are doing what inexperienced male adults pumped to the max with testosterone are bound to do when they get their hands a powerful machine. The reasons are obvious: intense drive for competition with other males, social status, attracting females, the thrill of the ride, and occasionally even a fascination with the engineering aspect of the machine. It’s the same reason why they are incorporated into military service at that age: full of piss and vinegar and too inexperienced. That again has been going on for a long time. Nothing new.

If there is a concerning aspect to all of it is the more modern influence of media culture – especially on an demographic that has never known a world without the internet and more importantly social media. Inexperienced individuals are incessantly hypersaturated in a media environment that produces content that strives to outdo, outcrazy, be more outrageous than the content posted yesterday. It compels such inexperienced individuals to think and behave the same way. So, take the traditional (mis)behaviors I outlined above, and amp it up by an order of magnitude by adding the toxin of social media and we see the results now. To make such behavior even more tempting is the idea taken from social media of acting anomalously (as no one uses their real names online) resulting in no consequences for one’s behavior. A lot of that seems to have migrated into actions in the real physical world: a sense that real world actions will likely not result in any consequences severe enough to act as a deterrent. The result is that the traditional rebelliousness/frustrations/antisocial behaviors of youth have been boosted to unheard levels of intensity.

^terrible.

And to say nothing about the assholes that regularly drive their pickup trucks (always, its pickup trucks) through parks and soccer pitches, for shits and giggles. I hate these people with every fibre of my soul.
