I do like the green aliens choir mural. I wish they didn't cover that up. The Flinstone and the peanut gangs character looks horrible, I'm glad it's gone.

It'll be a great game if it plays as well as it looks.

So? I couldn't possibly think of a more useless comment.

I'd rather have someone's attempt at creativity taking up space than nothing in this mostly sanitized city. Especially since it wasn't vandalism.

its only going to make foreign journalists dig that much deeper to dig up the reality and the real vancouver

It's nothing new...it happens in every Olympic city. And Vancouver hasn't gone anywhere to the same extent as what Athens, Torino, and especially Beijing have done with regards to covering things up...

Seemed like only yesterday NBC asked the city to remove the massive sulphur pile sitting on the North Shore beside Lions Gate... I guess they thought it didn't look pretty enough.

^wtf? Those sulphur piles are part of our economic heritage as a port city and region! They are also a reminder to the world that we are not a resort city, but a dynamic gateway to Asia and to the rest of Canada.

Well, if VANOC and NBC have their way, maybe we will become a bland resort town afterall.

Just keep tellin' yourself that. But likely nobody who works at the ports is able to live in Vancouver...

And all of those flights from China aren't coming to admire our sulphur, either.

The Port is the economic backbone of Vancouver, and Port jobs are some of the highest paying in the city. The Port generates 4.8 billion dollars in wages, and the average annual compensation per person directly related to the Port is $56,000. This is approximately 45% greater than the average wage in Canada of $38,000.

lol, a bit of an overreaction here?

While visiting the convention centre plaza, one of the NBC officials asked "does that [sulphur pile] need to be there?" And a convention centre staff answered, "yes," and that was the end of it.

Port jobs are some of the highest paid jobs in the city. A Longshoreman starts at over $30 an hour and over $40 and hour in the evenings or weekends. You talking about usually over $100,000 a year if you feel like working allot. Not to mention that you have a job for life with almost a 0% chance of ever loosing it.

Ivan Doumenc: 2010 Winter Olympics will be Vancouver's demise

The Olympic Games will leave Vancouver with poor financial, social, and environmental legacies, Ivan Doumenc writes.

recently saw a map of Vancouver’s downtown core showing the restricted zones for the period of the 2010 Winter Olympics. It hit me that, for the duration of the Games, I was going to be under siege in my own neighbourhood. About a dozen streets and 20 city blocks will be closed or severely restricted to the public. A long list of venues, restaurants, shops, and public places will also be closed in order to accommodate a variety of corporate-sponsored private events.

For all intents and purposes, the neighbourhood I live in will cease to support me during the Olympics. Like some obscure red- or blue-listed species I am about to lose my habitat, because people richer and more powerful than me are flying into town to enjoy endless parties behind highly guarded security gates. Talk about the enclosure of the commons.

Well, he may as well just go and hang himself. We all might as well.

2 weeks is practically FOREVER!

He sounds really unbiased , and pretty much all of his "facts" are wrong.
