^^That may be true, but just about every other developer (except Pinnacle) has given us far better buildings.

The 300' tower (and others in the neighbourhood) is probably seen as a 1960' mistake that isn't to be repeated in the west end. I have no problems with a "built-out" west end in the form of midrises-to-little-towers in a forest of mature trees and heritage buildings. So many other places need densification...

It's a bit of a shame that we will be left with the crap from the 60s as the tallest towers in the West End. I'd love to see interesting buildings like 1215 Bidwell become the most prominent in the area. It would set a good example for Vancouver "Green Capital" to have a LEED Gold building as the tallest in the West End.

Thanks.

They're regrouting the tiles and grinding out the old grout. The tape must be to protect the tile during the process.

I think that's the aborignal pavillion at QE.

Anyone notice the circular flag stickers on the sidewalk down Hamilton leading to Yaletown?
The Yaletown BIA put them in - I heard that South Granville BIA is doing the same across Granville Bridge.

ah i didn't get it in the pic - but where the tape is there are also some spots where tiles are missing completely something going up getting fixed

i wondered what that structure was - neat

that area around CBC should be cool soon - the plaza is nice and with the bread garden it should bring some more traffic

and me and my friend noticed at a lot of cafes along robson little coca cola cafe tables have appeared - steam rollers has a bunch of them and if you wanna see em - nothing exciting but coca cola is really branding along robson

They are doing a huge renovation of the plaza at Nelson Square. All the restaurants are gone, gutted and the plaza is being ripped out. Was told everything will reopen with a more upscale design.

No Relish isn't taking the whole space but they will be back after being completely rebuilt. The entire plaza with new additional businesses will be done in time for the olympics. I don't know if the fountain will be back since it and the stairs have been removed.

As a world-wide Oly Sponsor, should we be surprised that Coke will Strongly Suggest to anyone selling their fizzy stuff that they need to have a sidewalk table & umbrella festooned with the official Coke swoosh?

The Visa banners on The Bay were just the beginning of the Brandification of our fair town over the next 90 days.

Perhaps we should change our name to "Brandcouver" until March 2010

Here's a stupid one: my girlfriend was purchasing a few Olympic souvenirs at the Bay (downtown Vancouver). There is a separate cashier you have to use, and they only take Visa or cash. At least 2 people were frustrated, shook their heads, and walked away leaving things at the counter.

yah - you can't buy olympic tickets with nothing but visa or cash either

is it signed well at the bay? they should at least inform customers of that before they get to the counter - do they also refuse HBC cards?

Quel Suprise?

Visa and The Bay are official Oly sponsors.
You can ONLY use Visa at all the Oly sites & related venues, and it explains why there isn't an Oly trinkets store inside Sears.
... and why the Visa Oly banners are plastered only on The Bay, and not Pacific Centre.

One friend has decided to use MasterCard for xmas spending season, and let the VisaCard cool down to be ready for Oly spending season.

I see absolutely nothing on that huge building wrap that may explain why MasterCard is not accepted.

All they need to do is replace their awnings and HB building is a gem!

It really is our flagship department store, not the ugly mess of Sears.

I also love the brick artwork on that building in the right of the photo above (don't know its name). Would be nice to see such art work placed upon some of the blank sidewalls on buildings along Granville. (Also notice how it is lit up at night)

The new parent company of The Bay seems to be doing a lot of things right. Give them some time.

They just need to get Target to take over Zellers!
