"@DavidSeabrook: Stayed tuned today to @bradwoodside, @CityFredGov Econ Dev team making major Smart City announcement. Knowledge industry #gamechanger"

Sounds more like jobs to me. Now I'm excited.

Here it is http://www.fredericton.ca/en/citygov...ernetCosts.asp
Disappointing or what!! May have impact down the road as a 'carrot' to attract business, especially start-ups who are on a shoe-string budget, but all that will do is force other jurisdictions to do similar.

Typical Freddy....oversell and then hope someone believes the hype!

... let's not throw around terms like "game changer". Perhaps slight improvment on status quo would be more appropriate.

Hahaha! So game changer was misleading...
Now we are almost competitive with the GTA in terms of commercial internet rates for start ups. Ok then...

Thanks Owen for shining some light on us Debby downers. This is good news, I (and everyone) was hoping for more.

Ya, I was expecting something more too, so I understand. I was hoping maybe McCains would be moving their corporate offices here or something along those lines. I heard in passing that they were having trouble retaining personelle in Florenceville. Not that I'm keen on that town losing jobs, but if their moving, why not Fredericton?

As someone who grew up in Florenceville, I say no! McCains is the biggest employer in northern Carleton County. If they left, there would be a massive exodus from CC and it would become a ghost town. It's sad, the thought of my childhood home being left to tumble weeds. I realize business is business, but I guess a move is bound to happen sooner or later.

Highly suspect that if McCains ever left it would not be a move to Freddy but to the GTA

I think he's just talking about the corporate office though. I too have heard they have a hard to retaining employees.

Yep....I understood that he meant the Head Office. Unfortunately the 'Big boys' will likely move that to Toronto at some point or in the world of corporate consolidation it is bought out by a foreign company and moves the Head Office out of the country. Status quo is never an option in the world of business...

Well, looks like the Bishop Drive hotel definitely isn't happening. Fox Subaru may be moving there: http://www.fredericton.ca/en/citygov...sources/D4.pdf

Maritime Bus terminal moving to the corner of Smythe and Dundonald: http://www.fredericton.ca/en/citygov...sources/D1.pdf
