The hole is being dug for the apartment building at Hugo and McMillan. I believe it is a 4 storey faux heritage style building (it was posted somewhere here a while back).

I'm happy something is getting built there after all this time.

Parking lot? They've been clearing the snow and I've seen vehicles park there.

Does anyone know what's happening with that site. That lot and the peeling mural and boarded up windows on the old Basil's building just north of it are painful to look at.
I guess this answers my question:

I can't remember what the City was originally asking for this lot, but it has definitely gone up. I guess they factored in the cost of the soil remediation into the new asking price.

Hopefully someone snaps this up and builds a mixed use on this corner. It's pretty dismal right now.

At least it is up for sale again. Hopefully it gets sold on that March 6 date and we get a new building there in the next couple years.

430 Wardlaw Ave, which was the 3rd and final phase in the "Zu" apartments complex. I believed it opened back in October 2025 but I didn't get a picture of the finished building until today.

As far as I can tell from the website, there are 43 apartments available out the of 207 apartments in the whole complex (across all 3 buildings). Therefore about 80% of the apartments have been leased.

Liquor license application at 160 Osborne St (ground commercial unit of the Zu apartment building facing Osborne St). Appears the new restaurant will be called Sottobraccio.

Yeah the machinations of commercial real estate are strange. I live in west end Toronto now, and you'd think every last scrap of land would be in a frenzy to build and build big, but there's a surprising amount of empty lots and vacant buildings hanging on for years on end for no apparent reason (eg. 786 & 989 College, 1334 Bloor West all vacant since 2019).

If you own a vacant lot, no reason to sell it right away if you can just wait and the value goes up while you do nothing. Property taxes on vacant lots are very low.

Seems that 109 Osborne St (old Shop Take Care location) has been leased.

There's an opportunity cost to sitting on vacant property. Yeah it'll increase in value but so would a broad market ETF. Holding a vacant lot in Winnipeg over the past 10 or 30 years would have less than half the return of holding the TSX Composite index.
