That's what I was thinking. A hotel with a music venue would fit in around there.

Not familiar with a "live music venue" in or around the domain. However, two other sites came immediately to mind - even though they both are more than 10 miles from the CBD - New Nutty Brown in Round Rock (I think there is a hotel planned for the project) & The new Backyard project in Bee Cave (I know there is one planned for the site).

Endeavor adds Skidmore Owings & Merrill and CMG Landscape Architecture to team redeveloping the Statesman site.

Still no renderings, still no formal timeline. Feh.

I hope a lot of attention is paid to connectivity with the hike & bike trail to this project. I even care less about the building designs than I do about how it interacts with its surroundings. I'm also hoping it meshes well with the bat viewing area.

The Gensler vision was really great with them planning to extend the boardwalk.

SOM being added to this means maybe we get a signature tower. What will these buildings be capped at - assuming FAA has a say?

It’s cool to get an update on the site. Keep in mind the western edge has to be free from development bc atx has an easement they indend to keep for future transit development. It was going to be used for the 2014 light rail plan. It could eventually be a new bridge for an electric bus line from SoCo to UT.

What is this easement? You mean along the river?

I'm not sure, but the Gensler renderings showed one of the buildings at either 43 or 44 floors and it was likely a little more than 500 feet.

Give me an Austin version of The Shard. 1000 feet, totally weird and out of place. Let downtown build out on the north shore while this monster piece of building art just sits over there on the south bank, all by itself, brazen and proud. (somebody please make a mock-up)

Not sure if Nutty Brown really fits the bill but I think the Backyard is a good candidate. It has a fleshed out hotel concept on it's main splash page http://backyardaustin.com/stay/

I think it's questionable if the new backyard project even happens.

The Texas Facilities Commission has a major update to its North Austin Complex plan (this is along 51st/Lamar) -- but my work laptop seems to think the site is spam and I can't open it.

TFC-NAC.com in case anyone wants to check out the pics and/or project overview.

Four access points for the garage (both in and out) is a bit excessive. The one along 40th street and closest to 40th street should be eliminated. Getting onto W Guadalupe can already be a nightmare there at times. Other than that I like the office building, would like to see more projects like this along Guadalupe.

916 Congress should be good to go now - a tower crane permit was filed today. This is the office levels stack on a historical structure on the west side of Congress. The similar project on the east side of Congress is known as 909 Congress.

How many floors of office (and square footage?) will be built above the existing structures? Sounds like a nice project.

This is the thread we had on it. It's only 6 floors and 92 feet according to the site plan, but they filed a FAA permit for 133 feet.
