slow pace of Mitchell Street bridge replacement

For the last 2 months the Mitchell Street bridge, connecting castleberry hill with downtown, appears to just need a layer of asphalt to reopen, but that has not happened yet. GDOT seems to take much longer than needed for the scope of the project (could be financing issues or scheduling decisions). Anyone know when this bridge will be done?

Another apartment project planned along Beltline

Perennial Properties plans to develop a 228-unit apartment project along the Atlanta Beltline. The Atlanta developer, known for projects in the Old Fourth Ward and nearby Inman Park, would build the four- and five-story apartment buildings at North Avenue and Somerset Terrace , east of the Atlanta Beltline.

Earlier this month, Perennial’s engineers filed plans with the city of Atlanta Bureau of Planning for the nearly 3-acre project.

Perennial , founded in 1988 , has been developing projects in Atlanta since the late ’90s. Besides the Old Fourth Ward and Inman Park, it has developed in Midtown, Virginia-Highland, Morningside, Emory and Buckhead. Tim Schrager, one of its principals, said a goal for his company is to build projects where people can get out of their automobiles. The closer it develops to the Beltline, the better, he said. That allows people to connect to other parts of the city by walking out of their doors, rather than getting into their cars

As an East Atlanta resident, may I be the first to say, Hooray!

That's one derelict decrepit eyesore soon to be gone and many more still needed to be gone.

You know with how popular East Atlanta Village is I'm so surprised it took this long for apartments to go up around there. I see so many great spots for potential infill.

You're right about that. No doubt. Developers seem to be taking an increasingly closer look at East Atlanta and as much as it's changed in the 10 or so years I've been in this part of town, I'm hopeful for an even greater rate of change in the coming years.

When I wrote the East Atlanta Village Study around 2000 we identified housing as the one ingredient East Atlanta Village would need to really take off. This site was even identified as the catalytic project for such. I'm glad to see it finally happening a decade later, but just wish the building could have remained. I do, however, understand that it doesn't "pencil out" to do so.

Yes. It's sad that it was allowed to decay to a point where it was no longer salvageable. Could have been an awesome loft-type project if it had been tackled perhaps 12 to 15 years ago before the building and site really went downhill.

I saw them pouring concrete Thursday so it looks like 'something' is still happening. I talked to the owners of Elliot Street Deli a few weeks ago and they said the completion date was moved to September..... Damm now I can't stop thinking about their potato salad.

I live near EAV too, and I'm glad to see more development on the way. I hope it spreads eastwards on Flat Shoals as well. The corner of Flat Shoals Road and Flat Shoals Avenue needs some serious attention. It's the worst part of riding the #74 into town.

As far as the Wal-Mart Market design, I look forward to seeing one in Glenwood Park. I know a few people that live there and think it fits the space well, and it would be a great alternative to the SuperStore on Gresham if you just need to walk in for a few items instead of park in a huge parking lot for major or longer-term shopping.

is the former Peach Building on Peachtree Street vacant?

The Chick fil-a peach is still on top and the electric billboard is working, but the parking deck is full of graffiti and there is a for sale sign on front. Is this building abandoned?

Property at 1655 Peachtree St now called Peach Condominiums (Conversion of former office building, called the Peach Building, that was built in 1962) ... but website does not have much information and no new news since 2005.

This midtown alliance development site states that they will deliver in 2010-2011, or 5-6 years since the project started in 2005. http://www.midtownalliance.org/Documents/Midtown%20Development%20Tour%2003_18_10.pdf

Guessing that they something happened since then because the building still appears to be under construction or vacant. I would be curious if anyone knows the back story behind this building.

77 12th virtual animation just released - am curious to see what the interiors are going to look like and how they will compare with the adjacent 1010 building; I'm told one difference is 77 12th will have linoleum hardwood flooring

Wow. That PDF was a walk down memory lane of undelivered projects. One Museum Place, the Atlanta Symphony Center, Trump Towers, the Mandarin Oriental, etc...

Speaking of undelivered projects... I think Doucheberry actually had his beady little eyes set on The Peach site for "Uptown Heights & Uptown Pointe" http://www.dewberrycapital.com/properties/atlanta.html . Although it's hard to tell from the rendering.
