Look at a place like Chester Nova Scotia or even south of Halifax by the Royal Yacht Club, and it's all built up on the waterfront. Saint John has nothing compared to this at all.
From the landside I feel some areas of Rothesay have the same feel as the south end of Halifax near the arm - large properties, big houses and a detached feel from the rest of the community.

Having grown up in Rothesay, I can say that if there's one thing we do well, it's making people feel detached

I never really understood Rothesay's wealthy reputation until heading down near the Saint John River. The Saint John area must have been quite a bit wealthier in relative terms at the turn of the last century.

Why can't Saint John try and get a CFL team too.

Sell the naming rights, invest 10 million dollars for expansion (they already have 7) and try and get a team. At the very least, they should bring University football to the city. It's a shame to let this great facility go to waste. Great view, great location and a great history. I can't believe we aren't entertaining the possiblity.

The really posh areas were separate villages until amalgamation about 10 years ago.

Not really. The teams in that league are kinda loosely affiliated with the 2 UNB campuses and UdeM, but they're not official teams by any means.

I don't believe we would be able to properly support a CFL team.

I am not sure which areas you are referring to however Rothesay was and continues to be one of the highest income per capita towns in the entire country. There are no other communities in NB that are close.

UNBSJ competes in many of the major sports (basketball, soccer, volleyball, etc..) in the ACAA with St. Thomas, etc.. Not sure how that is not official.

Across from Prince Edward Square where Dooly's is (was?). The building used to house a pharmacy way back in the day and most recently was a great little tea room.

Seems like Papa Johns is opening a location here as well on the West Side.
Strange place for it. But i guess the new plaza over there does get a lot of people now with the new Sobeys and all

I could see a a franchisor thinking that the west side is underserved by restaurants, and wanting to locate there.

I totally agree, and really its not that far of a distance to deliver to Douglas Ave Area either and North End. I meant odd as in you just dont see it often. Most people just located on the East Side and don't bother to investigate the West Side at all...

Cruise ship listings

The Port has released the cruise listings for 2010 :

http://www.cruisesaintjohn.com/media/cruiseschedule.asp

Total passenger count for 2010 is currently 211,268 which reflects a decent increase from 2009. Fewer ships but larger capacity ships will call this year.

The west side is closer than the east side for those of us in the North End. It's a lot easier to just jump across the Falls Bridge and go through Simms rather than driving all the way out east.
