Perhaps not just another business park. The development of 200-plus residential units at this early stage could be a harbinger of a good mixed use future. At this quick pace of build up, a little more time should tell.

The southwest corner of 13490 south and Vista Station Blvd. They are also building a hotel on the site. The hotel frontage will be facing Bangerter Hwy

Does Vista station have an updated PDF with shows the layout of the overall development? The last one I saw had basically just five or six five story office buildings in a sea of parking lots. that's why I refer to it as another office park.

Keep in mind there are two different developments there. Draper Point and Vista station. As for a rendering I don't recall seeing one.

Someone had told me two years ago that Easton and Hoyt were building this facility but I forgot about it. Really cool that it's here.

I've been in the new Easton building out at the International Center a couple of times. It's a pretty impressive facility as far are archery goes. They have real nice indoor and huge outdoor archery ranges (I guess that's what you call them) Pretty state of the art, as far as a non archery person can tell.

I've been holding off on posting anything about this, partially because it's non-news, partially because it's not as exciting as what's happening in other Wasatch Front communities.

But Kearns, unloved bastard child of the townships, is getting a little bit of attention. I grew up there, I'm living there again (for now), and I have a perverse ghetto pride in it.

Anyway, here's the news story:

Kearns • Two projects designed to improve the quality of life in this western-valley community formally got off the ground Friday.

Salt Lake County turned dirt on the "Gateway to Kearns," a four-block-long stretch of land on the south side of 5415 South that will be converted from a weed patch into a parkway including the county's first urban orchard with apples, peaches, pears and cherries.

A few blocks to the south, the old Kearns American League baseball fields will be transformed into an affordable housing complex for 20 families in the "Field of Dreams" project. Wells Fargo Bank presented an $82,500 check Friday to help Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity get that project rolling.

There's more info on the projects and photos and renderings at the Trib article. I do think the "urban orchard" thing is intriguing. Planting 450 trees along that stretch will hopefully be an asset for the community. And I'm glad the Habitat for Humanity thing is replacing the baseball field where I played little league when I was a pup. With Taylorsville, WVC, and West Jordan having taken away any tax base that K-Town might have had, they've got precious little to work with. I appreciate the County helping out with the "orchard" and non-profits on the other project.

MURRAY — The skyline of the central Salt Lake Valley along the 1-15 corridor will change in the near future as the redevelopment and expansion of a new corporate campus gets underway.

Security National Financial Corp. broke ground Friday on nearly 20 acres of land near 5300 South. The estimated $300 million project will include the development of nearly 1 million square feet of commercial space, with a six-building campus ranging from four to 12 stories, along with three parking structures with more than 4,000 stalls.

When completed, the overall design will provide workspace for up to 5,000 employees from tenants who will occupy the space, including the corporate headquarters of Security National Financial Corp. Amenities will include rooftop terraces and outdoor plazas.

In an effort to limit urban sprawl and excessive infrastructure development, the center is positioned to leverage multiple transportation modes, including TRAX, FrontRunner, bus rapid transit and highways.

This sounds like an exciting project. It's a shame that the Deseret News did a horrible job of reporting this since they failed to provide an address and images of the groundbreaking.

Draper Pointe and Vista Station merged quite a while ago, as was discussed in this forum previously. Boyer and Gardner, developers of Draper Pointe bought out Vista Station and renamed the Pointe to Vista Station.

The plan had been a long time in the making, part of $50 million in improvements to create a mega-ski resort that goes by the overarching name Park City Mountain Resort, or Park City for short. (Canyons becomes Canyons Village at Park City.)

It's an eight-and-a-half-minute ride to get from one mountain to the other. The link means skiers and snowboarders have access to 300 trails, 41 lifts and 7,300 acres of terrain.

And when you need a breather between runs, there's the 500-seat Miners Camp restaurant. Handmade flatbread pizzas and local draft beers are on the menu.

I haven't been out to Sandy for a while, but I realized it was just over a year ago that the Cairns 'broke ground', wondering if there has been any progress?

A recent article counted the East Village as part of the Cairns vision, but that same publication first stated the Cairns project was I-15 to State, and the ksl article states the same boundaries.

So to answer your question. In that year they seem to have made about as much progress as was made on the Proscenium proposal.

I assume the stacked rocks are probably still there, so that's something, right?

There is a hole in the ground for the Hale Center Theater so that part is definitely moving forward.

There are 2 typical suburban office buildings being constructed on the hill across from the Expo Center by the Workman's Compensation building. I would say that is all if you don't count the East Village residences.

There is also a 5-story residential development being constructed north of city hall. With a hiden parking structure behind the building. This development is probably the most urban-ish development I've seen yet for that area. I'm still waiting for that 25 story residential development to break ground.

thanks for the info all. The term 'Breaking ground' seems to have a different meaning to different people.
