I wouldn't doubt that stat could be true, it's at least very close. It's always packed.

Except 2 gas stations at 41st, there isn't much anywhere on Granville South of 16th and North of 64th. It's just 48 blocks of rather upscale houses. South Granville is mostly high end shopping. Most of the office jobs on Broadway are actually closer to Cambie and are better served by the Canada Line.

All the buses went down Granville because it was the fastest and most reliable way to get Downtown to/from Richmond/Highway 99. The stops on the way didn't mater much, it was just the easiest way to get people into the downtown core. Canada Line does that perfectly, fast, and serves other destinations too (Oakridge, VGH, Langara, Yaletown).

Sending a tram down the Arbutus corridor makes perfect sense, and itself would see more City of Vancouver based transit use than the 98 B line did.

Kerrisdale is a very built up neighborhood. As well, it would provide a N/S backbone on the West Side of Vancouver that local buses could connect to, increasing service and improving travel time to places like Dunbar.

just noticed this:

If you're attending an Olympics athletic event, your event ticket gives you unlimited access to all of TransLink’s transit services for the day of that event, right through to the end of service the following morning. Otherwise, TransLink’s regular transit fares apply.

great idea, they've been doing this in germany already for years (most major concerts, sports events, festivals, etc). definitely an interesting way forward - tack on a small service charge on ticket sales in venues above a certain capacity and allow the tickets to be used as metro passes for the 2 hours before and after. works perfectly with the translink fare validation scheme.

also, i bet this is bound to become some sort of collector's item:

Now Available! TransLink offers limited edition, six-week 2010 Games Transit Passes that provide unlimited travel on buses, SeaBus and SkyTrain (including the Canada Line, Expo and Millennium Lines). These passes are good for travel starting February 8, 2010 (before start of the Olympic Games on February 12, 2010) and run right through to the Closing Ceremonies for the Paralympics on March 21, 2010.

a bit steep on the prices though:
2010 Games Transit Pass Prices
1-Zone $110
2-Zone $149
3-Zone $204
Concession $63

You're years behind the times.

Kerrisdale residents scuttled the plan to build the Canada Line along that ROW, Canadian Pacific got tied up in Court and Kitsilano/False Creek residents have built gardens along much of it-there will never be a (redundant) transit line there now.

It shows as part of a Bike Trail on some maps but really isn't.

Just like the [redundant] multiple bus lines we have? Please.

the courts rules it couldn't be used for anything other than transit so that bodes well

theose olympic passes are what it would cost for 6 weeks - a 1 zone month 4 week pass is what $73?

2 zone monthly is $99

for 30 days a month that is $3.30 per day

the 6 week 2 Zone pass works out to $3.55 per day.

But there's only 28 days in February, which works out to be $3.54 per day.

still an absurdity, considering virtually every major transit system on this planet offers weekly passes, rather than forcing folks to choose between single day cards and monthly cards. then there's the fact that ~95% of visitors won't stick around for BOTH the olympics and para-olympics.

So? Let Translink profit off of all the Olympic money coming in by selling 6-week passes to 2-week visitors!

Remember, it will not be athletes that pay this rate. It will be Olympics tourists who pay this rate.

I'd rather buy the standard monthly pass and have a few bucks in my pocket vs getting some collectible.

Besides because I'm a BCIT student I'm allowed to use all the zones on a 1 zone pass. Even though I'm not going back to school till next november

Translink has issued an RFP to do sesmic upgrades to the seabus skywalk and escalator/elevator building at the south terminal, both were constructed in 1976 and during a 2006 study they were deemed high risk. Work will probably commence this year, and it won't disrupt seabus sailings.

No kidding, I'm coming over for a week and was trying to find out how much weekly passes were, only to find out they don't exist.

To each their own, I will be buying the special card and supplementing with bus tickets, I think there are lots of people who will do the same from what I heard. Afterall it is only a few bucks extra...
