View from the top of the world's tallest structures!

Here is a link to some fascinating views from the top of some of the world's tallest buildings, including the Burji Dubai, the CNN Tower, Willis Tower, Tapai 101, etc.

Enjoy and don't look down!

Heard on the radio that there is going to be a $75 million expansion of the Loch Lomond Villa into the empty plot of land across the street. I'm assuming that means the land that Bayview Elementary used to be on. Anyone know for sure?

They do own the Bayview site.

$75 million is a huge sum of money, so I'm assuming it's going to be a very big expansion. I hope it's not a long term, drawn out affair, but is done all-at-once, and considering the small foot print of the land in question, the Bayview School, I would also tend to hope that it would also include one or more high rise towers! At least I'm hoping anyway.

That would be a good prominent spot for a hirise. In any case, hopefully it looks good.

Agreed with Helladog on the idea of a hirise. Perhaps they'll build a third tall building to accompany the two they already have.

However, is the $75Mil not deficit money? From what I heard this is the government spending more money that they don't entirely have.

Are you guys sure it's $75 million for that one project? My understanding is that the announcement was for a $400 million upgrade and replacement of almost all of the province's nursing homes, to be spent over the next ten years. That seems like an awful lot of money for a single building. Maybe that's the funding for the whole SJ area? Renos plus new buildings?

The project is supposed to be phased with 250 beds at the end of the project. I heard that this is going to be 200 replacement beds, and 50 new beds. I don't know if that means 200 beds are being removed by altering the current space or by doing major renovations.

Wow - that's a huge bus! way bigger than the articulated buses in Ottawa! I believe the front half is only as big as the back half.

It's a massive bus, about halfway through it turns into a cavern and then opens up to an entirely open bus. They're massive inside.

I wish they would start using them for the University & Hospital route

Cry is Being Heard for City to Host CFL Game

The Chair of the City's Recreation and Leisure Committee wants to bring a CFL game to Saint John. Barry Ogden has sent a letter to council asking that they contact the league's commissioner to play an exhibition game when refurbishment work at the Canada Games Stadium is finished. The stadium has played host to a pair of CFL games since it was built back in 1985 and the CFL will play a pre-season game next year in Moncton.

Ogden says if we ask now, the city might be able to get a game booked for 2011. Ogden is also encouraging Mayor and Councilors to take the lead on finding a venue suitable for the city to start hosting an outdoor concert.

I must say, I'm tired of seeing news stories about Barry Ogden. Between his kitschy non-sailing Marco Polo model and his unflappable support of football at the expense of other recreation spending, he seems to be in the TJ far too often.

I have noticed that ANY article in the TJ regarding the IOL headquarters is smashed to pieces with negativity in the "comment" section. Clearly, this is the work of disgruntled port union boys and their posse. Nevertheless, the depth of this negativity is really depressing to constantly be subjected to. Anybody who even dares to post a positive comment is beat down. I really think it sucks that we still have a significant portion of the city base who want to return to the 1960's ans '70's. It's sad.
