Haha...the "too far away" comment was actually meant to be sarcastic. I am only too well aware of our car centric society and obsession with door front parking expectations in this city. Just look to the loud opposition when a few parking spots were lost for bike lanes downtown. Hopefully this city grows up and learns to adopt a more open mind set to public transit and walking one or two blocks to a destination...

He seems well suited and qualified for this important leadership position.

I have family in Calgary that live close to the campus and we often frequent the Universtiy Quarter District there. They have done such a great job of mixed use development there and it seems to be thriving! Condos, apartments, hotel, grocery store, restaurants, pubs, health services, movie theatre, etc. It is a very energetic neighborhood! Certainly a model I hope that Saskatoon will consider.

I thought that it might be but, having lived in Vancouver for sixteen years I was very used to walking everywhere downtown, the West End, Stanley Park, Kitsilano, etc.. Walking, cycling or taking transit were usually better (although not always the most convenient) alternatives to a private vehicle. I typically walk 8 to 10 km/day.

Good on you, RobD!
My wife and I moved to Varsity View neighborhood from the burbs about 7 years ago. We had been looking a long time, but our priorities were walkability (to Uni, Broadway, River and downtown). We are a single car family and "amazingly" (according to friends and family) we have no problem making that work. We walk or bike as primary mode of transport and use our car only when we have to.
It will be our intention (if we are still alive), to walk to the DEED for any events we may be interested in, or take public transit.

It can be done....as you have practiced in Vancouver and we do it here in Saskatoon.

City Centre and District Plan at GPC September 11

At its September 11 meeting, the Governance and Priorities Committee of City Council is set to discuss the roadmap for planning Saskatoon’s Downtown and surrounding area. The City Centre and District Plan (Plan) lays out a guide for the land uses, public realm and transportation required to revitalize Downtown. The Plan identifies actionable items, that in partnership with private investment and community, will help make Downtown a more vibrant, safe and livable area.

I hope this new plan has an implementation plan. The city spent a lot of money on their North Downtown plan a long time ago. There wasn't much to it for what they paid, I thought, outside the land bridge over the railway tracks idea. Hopefully what's coming is more seriously considered. Although not thriving like it was 50 years ago, I think DT is doing okay and has a lot of potential. Here's to more improvements!

Agreed. Vacancies are slowly getting leased and it looks like we're finally turning the corner from covid basically killing downtown growth

I never ever come and checkout Saskatoon page. This project gave me goosebumps.
I'm really rooting for you guys in Saskatoon for this to happen!

I have one question, if the new arena gets built, what's the capacity supposed to be like?

Further along, I hope you guys give your Mayor a fantastic story about having a CFL team.

From me who lives in Winnipeg, I wish you guys the very best!

I believe the new arena capacity is a bit larger than the current capacity at sasktel centre. there was a mini blueprint of some sort showing each level of the new arena and I remember it saying just over 18,000 - correct me if I'm wrong though.

What does Saskatoon intend to use an 18,000 seat arena for sand NHL team?
