As someone who works for a developer on the asset management side, I do see all sides pretty well. That is why I am hoping that Novare's Skyhouse literally sends a signal that parking demand for residential is not what it once was and that new developments can be built without that level of parking (at least in Midtown around the 3 MARTA stations).

I also live in one of the taller buildings in Midtown with a parking pedestal, and it is probably 50% empty (the building is full). Having been in other garages in Midtown, I see a lot of empty spaces every time I visit. Metropolis would benefit from more retail parking. I haven't seen Metropolis residential parking to know whether or not it is generally full, but other Novare developments seem to have decently empty garages. Also your renter is more likely not to have a car than your typical condo owner. They are renting for a reason - i.e. young, live near work, urban minded, maybe no money for both a car and a place to live, etc.
TOTALLY DISAGREE!!!!! Plaza Midtown residential parking was pretty much full. And the building wasn't 100% full. And gosh...urban minded doesn't mean not to own a car. Also, parking is still needed if a building has street level retail. I'm sure you know by now that these businesses in 1010, Plaza Midtown, etc. are NOT supported mainly by people that are walking to these venues.

On a side note, the concrete supports for MARTA rail along Decatur Street are being painted to hide that area's infamous graffiti. It's not complete yet, and it's a reddish-brown color.

Heights at Brookleigh

Heights at Brookleigh

So I noticed this construction at 2248 Johnson Ferry Rd NE
Atlanta, GA 30319 (near the intersection of Johnson Ferry Rd NE and
Ashford Dunwoody Rd NE in Brookhaven)

Found out that it is $27.5 million luxury apartment complex called the Heights at Brookleigh

See press release

I think it comes down to rental vs. condo. Plaza Midtown is mostly full because it's a condo building with one spot per bedroom. On the other hand, when I lived in Post Parkside there were always a ton of empty spots. I agree with Simms3 on this one because we're talking about rental towers. These massive decks aren't going to fill up.
The retail parking is a completely separate issue, as it's always separated from residential parking.

Meehan’s Public House at Atlantic Station

For those that have not been to Atlantic Station, there have been many changes to the retail mix as the new owner takes the mall in a new direction. I snapped a pic of the Meehan’s Public House at Atlantic Station when I was there last week.

Per the Atlantic Station Blog this should already be opened, but based on photo taken last week they should be opening this month

I don't know which I'm happier about... a new restaurant or the demise of those "open air pop up shops".

When you say "was", can you give more detail (did you live there)? Unless people are parked illegally in the Plaza garage for events or GT games, I have NEVER had trouble finding a convenient spot for a quick trip to Publix or other places in the retail section. I've only been in the residential section once and didn't pay attention. Plaza does indeed take a lot of walk-up traffic and that Publix is not one of the major performers in the chain as a result (it's small and its largest customer base is GT students, many of whom walk).

I have noticed that Viewpoint's garage seems very empty (and they have 2 units left so for all intents that building is now full). 1280 West is half empty all the time (I know because I have lived here for 3 years). Mayfair is usually very empty (I know because I am moving there in 1 month and am there frequently). Metropolis retail parking is usually 70-90% full, but I have never truly had difficulty finding a spot to visit someone in the building for short periods of time (usually I walk). 1010 retail is only full Thurs-Sat night. 1075 retail parking is never full because I don't think people even know it exists.

And then I reiterate renters are less likely to have or even need a car as condo owners. You rent close to work, you're renting for a reason, you're most likely younger, - basically you're less apt to have a car.

I'm a little sad that it is smaller. Will keep everyone updated as it is being developed, I work at WOCC.

A budget "Signature for Atlanta". This is truly sad.

Pretty underwhelming. Typical of cultural attractions in this town. They are never built on par with NY, DC, LA, Chicago here. They're conceived of at this level, and then scaled back for umpteen reasons.

The airport on the other hand, kicks the h**l out of the airports in the "gateway" cities. Compare the international terminal with JFK or LAX and the airport facilities in the 1st tier towns wilt in comparison.

Why can't we apply the same level of world class approach to our cultural attractions??

Hard to tell from that one small rendering, we'll need to see more details.

Although I was not a fan of the boxy original design. Looked retro in a bad way.

That does not look like the design in the article and it looks like one I have seen. It is very Frank Lloyd Wright looking, I like it.
