Keep in mind that Edmonton now has the Riverhawks of the WCBL...

This helps make more than a few places more viable.

^ They're in different leagues, although the names are so similar I can understand the confusion. The Edmonton Riverhawks are part of the WCL, the Regina Red Sox are part of the WCBL.

It's a pretty ambitious proposal considering the tenants, the Regina Red Sox of the WCBL, play a short season that averages about 32 home games including preseason and playoffs. My Winnipeg bias is showing but I think this would be an awesome opportunity for Regina to join Winnipeg and enter the American Association... AA teams play 50 home games plus preseason and playoffs.

Absolutely love it. They should just turn it 90 degress counter clockwise so the downtown towers are facing the outfield, would make for amazing views.

That's correct.

Sorry, what I meant was that it makes Western Canadian baseball stronger with Edmonton getting a new team.

Here's hoping we start to tie things together again.

I asked about that for the Winnipeg stadium a couple of years ago. There are other stadiums, including major league, that don't capitalize on having that view. A forumer mentioned that this could be due to the angle of the sun during the typical times games are played.

The batters and the pitchers shouldn't face the sun at any point in their play which is why most ballparks face North/Northeast, along with other tidbits like sunsets on right field because flyballs are less frequent on that side, etc.

That is a beauty park! Takes me back to Burns stadium in Calgary, wishing we had a ball ten to ply out of Burns

Baseball stadiums must face northeast. This is not optional.

Baseball stadiums do not "have" to face Northeast, that is just the optimum line. A few MLB fields face southeast or almost due south.

Maybe I’m completely disoriented, but wouldn’t the sun be in the fielders eyes if the stadium faces northeast? Burns stadium in Calgary faces southwest

For sure, most do. But it's not a requirement. A couple older and newer examples. Atlanta's new stadium faces almost directly south. Guaranteed Rate Field (Chicago White Sox, 30 years old) faces southeast. The former Texas Rangers park also faced southeast.

The pitcher and fielders have the grandstand casting a shadow, so only the batter needs the benefit of strategic orientation.

Comerica Park in Detroit faces SSE to maximize views of downtown including the Renaissance Center.

Very rough early idea for the CPL stadium at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon. Notably, they've chosen a N/S orientation that uses the horse-racing stand as an end-stand rather than as a sideline stand.

"After investigating both a North/South pitch orientation vs East/West, engineers convinced us that design elements should be based on a North/South. Stay tuned for more in the coming weeks!"

^ With that orientation, it looks like it's turning into another weird franken-stadium like Cavalry's home.

Honestly, plenty of stadiums in Europe are like this. I don't mind unique stadiums if they work. The Cavalry stadium is particularly bad, though.

I'd rather visit something like the arena in Peterborough, which feels like five different buildings smooshed into one, then another boring cookie-cutter arena like Mississauga or Blainville, to give a more Canadian example. There's definitely something to be said about unique experiences.

^ I know what you're saying, I'm not in love with cookie cutter venues either, but this type of layout with by far the biggest stand behind one of the goals is less than ideal when it comes to ambience and would also present poorly on TV. I don't see why they wouldn't orient the field the other way instead.

I realize the CPL is in its early stages right now so this probably won't be a long-term venue for the club. But it would be nice to see the clubs playing in venues that would be appealing to fans and players alike.

Don't recall seeing the Cardinal version of the RR stadium before.

I remember that, it was one of the early proposals, maybe from around 2009, 2010 or thereabouts? Certainly a beauty design-wise although Regina still ended up with something really good.
