Mobile forumers, I thought this is what happened, is this correct? If not, I feel pretty stupid, because I was fairly specific about what I thought happened with regards to the rezoning process and really dont know where I got that from.

And, as far as the Riverview plaza; It is currently a freakin DUMP (roomwise), one of the worse hotels I have stayed at in a long time. But there is hope. RSA paid 11 or so million $ for it and now owns it. They are doing a $55,000,000 renovation to upgrade it to a 4 star Renaissance brand. The Battle house Hotel under renovation next to the tower is also going to be a Renaissance brand, but they will be destinctly different.

The Renaissance (currently riverview plaza) will be fairly modern, while the Battle House Renissance will be a classy boutiqe style hotel. The riverview currently has 377 rooms, while the smaller Battle house has 238 or so, but they will also put some rooms in the tower.

The interior renderings for both buildings look Very goood. While the exterior renovations on the Battle House are great, the exterior renovations for the riverview are really too subjective to say good or bad. What I think will make the Riverview exterior renovations a success or just a waste of money, is how good of a job they do integrating that new crown onto a 8 sided building.......I am not a architech but if I would guess that the very strange design would create problems when integrating a "aftermarket" crown.

Seriously though, what do you Mobile folks think about it? It may make the skyline look taller, but do you not have a problem with them trying to tie all your towers together architecturally?
blazer85 you are right,I luv mobile, lived there for 20yrs then i've been here in huntsville for 11yrs,and the crown for the riverview plaza is just ridiculous leave it like it is, do all your renovations, but keep the crown off.they could of spent that money that they paid for the crown and built another tower?and austin356 you are right that's exactly what happend peavy voted no because of olivers criminal background..but it passed, i think 2 weeks later

I agree with Blazer. I don't like the new crown. they could have done something more unique to the building. The skyline needs to be diverse. If they wanted a crown that bad they should build one that actually goes along with the building.

the double crowns are Dr. Bronners instructions. Kind of like the green roofs
in MGM. Wonder if his new hotel will have a matching green tin roof like the RSA building?

I don't think the hotels in Mobile will have tin green roofs. That would suck if they did!

Well with the RSA tower, they are kind of sticking with the sea green theme that the Convention Center has...

Wow, that looks great !

My brother is selling his house in Mobile later this month (that he has been renting out for years), so I look forward to seeing that RSA goliath in person soon.

What's the deal with this ? are they ripping it down, or in the middle of rebuilding it ? I hope the latter.
