20 years after being initially proposed, United Gulf has closed off it's site in the heart of Downtown Halifax to start construction of SKYE HALIFAX.

Gallery 3 shot up like a weed

The Diamond is just too easy so I'll go with the peculiarities of pre-leasing for well over a year and two towers virtually complete sitting empty since early 2024.

It's funny how much the context of this has changed. If I recall correctly it was originally a pair of twisting glass-clad 27-storey towers which in the 2000's was huge for Halifax. These days it's been cut down in height and it's just one of many tower developments that have happened recently or are under construction.

It will be nice to have this lot filled in though. For whatever reason that area south of Sackville St ended up full of empty lots. Skye and Meridian shrink that parking lot area down by around 1/3.

JAG Sound House just opened. This was an extension to the JAG Hotel on George Street West (separated from George Street by Barter's Hill/Waldegrave Street, main traffic routes. It really should have a different name than George Street). Pics via FB - last one is from an actual photographer and linked:

One block uphill and two blocks north of my last post, the heritage facade restorations have been unveiled on Dexel Developments' THE PRESS BLOCK. There are more angles on my blog. This is located between City Hall and Province House.

50 Scollard is goodlookin'. The venting is the only thing keeping it from a magazine cover. The firm's other tower is the celeb. Tallest in the city with complex gravity defying engineering. I don't find the execution better than this so far.

Did you do this Koops? If so great job, thanks for taking the time to do it.
It looks like The One will be a Super Tall next month (finally). I'm happy they will be able to claim tallest building even if it's only for about 5 or 6 months. One Yonge is growing like a weed.

I concur. This is ingenious and much appreviated.

I read a recent article that suggested The One is still 6 months from topping out and 2.5 years from completion. IIRC, The One only needs to be topped out to be called a supertall so it will be this year.

On Earth Day, take in the view of Canada’s tallest residential Zero Carbon Building! This 21-storey tower (Solara Flats) in downtown Winnipeg, developed by UWCRC2.0 Inc. and Lotus Holdings, features:

🌆Building Integrated Photovoltaic Panels that provide return on investment as a energy generating asset while utilizing daylight and reducing cooling loads.

😎60 Solar-Thermal Rooftop Collectors that support hot water heating demand, backed up with a high- efficient, carbon-free heating system via air-source heat pump systems.

🌡️Increased Envelope Thermal Systems: Increased envelope insulation R-Values and utilization of thermal clips, including cast-in-place thermal breaks at balcony locations.

❄️Central Cold Climate Air Source Heat Pump System draws from several heating sources including recapturing heat
created from the cooling system.

The future of environmentally sustainable housing takes all of us. We're supporting the vision of UWCRC2.0 for a more sustainable housing future through innovative problem solving, effective budget management, and collaboration with design and trade partners to make projects like this feasible.

You guys are welcome. I really should make them more often, it only takes a few hours. 99% of the drawings are mine, so I'm not worried about copyright infringement or anything like that.

I wonder who the "architect" was that designed that SFH just to the right of it in this shot. <Barf>

LITTLE BROOKLYN - WYSE ROAD, DARTMOUTH, NS

LittleBrooklynDartmouth.ca all of the renderings below are from their site.

They broke ground this week on THE ARROWS

Our current tallest is 32 floors so THE ARROWS will have the title of tallest building in Atlantic Canada. There are other 40-storeys planned in Halifax but this is the only one under construction. For those unfamiliar with Dartmouth search for Dartmouth Shopping Centre. This is at the foot of MacDonald Bridge and is just across the street from our busiest bus terminal.
