Last week was my partner's birthday week... so we did some stuff in celebration of his birthday. Mainly did a museum day during the week---so, lots of photos of artwork/museum displays.

We went to see the Keith Haring exhibit. This exhibit really made me appreciate his art more; I used to think of him just doing those human figures, and figures of dogs... but I learned from this exhibit that a lot of his art was actually very subversive, and I love subversive art. Because he did most of his art during the very conservative President Reagan era, a lot of his art deals with and are commentaries on homophobia, racism, white supremacy, imperialism, excessive capitalism, and right-wing Christianity, among other things. And up until now, most of his stuff I've seen through prints... but seeing his actual paintings up close and the detail, really made me appreciate him more as an artist.

Keith Haring designed that suit for Madonna, which she wore in 1984 when she performed "Like a Virgin" and "Dress You Up" as a preview before the release of her "Like a Virgin" album

I remember that Safe Sex image. You saw it around West Hollywood during that period, during the height of the AIDS pandemic, that awful Reagan era, when Reagan refused to fund AIDS research. He was very homophobic. Keith Haring died of AIDS.

It took me a minute to realize this is an image of someone breakdancing (that was kind of the theme of the room).

Keith Haring did a lot of NYC subway poster art; after a while, he stopped doing it because his artwork was getting stolen.

After looking at the Haring exhibit, we went upstairs and looked at the other collections of The Broad---which we've seen already. We didn't linger too long.
