Pretty much exactly the type of building I wanted to be delivered on this block. Height around ~600 ft should break up the monotony and the design looks like it's informed by the constraints of the site and in a good way too. There's no copy and paste here. Can't wait to see renderings but the drawings make it look like we're about to have our own sail-style building in Austin, just like the one in Dubai. I'd love if it were that turquoise color in the drawing - would compliment Third + Shoal nicely
Wow, I usually do not like sail-shaped buildings but I think this one has a chance to be pretty cool-looking with those dashing lines from the southern view.
Definitely NOT what I expected on block 185 but I'm delightfully surprised.
Wow! This is fantastic, will be such a lovely addition to the skyline. I feel like that in a just a few more years, I don't even think folks in other Texas cities would recognize Austins skyline. Its got a Canadian feel to it, unlike Dallas and Houston in my opinion.
STG Design is listed as the architect on Page 1 of the site plan. I saw no mention of Pelli Clark Pelli.
They may be the local architects of record. Int'l Starchitects' buildings are almost always done together with a local architecture firm to do the nitty gritty and make the building compliant with local codes and get it through permitting.
I guess I'm the only one who needs a full rendering to understand the beauty of this one. I'm almost there, but having a hard time putting it in full context.
I'm just glad it's not a twin of the Northshore as initially proposed. We already have the twin Silicon Labs buildings on the waterfront, two sets of twins would be redundant.

I have to say, it took a minute before the actual shape of this thing clicked in my brain.
It's going to be so cool how the western face curves back as the southern face angles up, sweeping your eyes up and back toward the skyline. What a great building to be front and center from the most famous angles of downtown.

Something triangular/pyramidal -- which could also be considered sail shaped -- would make a lot of sense on this lot, wouldn't it? There are setbacks from the creek, and setbacks from the lake (right?) so the highest point has to be on the north-eastern corner of the block. The other renders we've seen for this lot have had setbacks that step up from the creek and cesar chavez. If instead of setbacks you sloped up from the creek/lake you'd get a triangular, pyramidal, sail shape. I think someone here might have once mentioned that the required setbacks are actually defined by angles. So angling the sides of the building may actually be a way of maximizing floor area.
In fact I could see something a lot like Ingels' "pyramid" 57 West on this lot -- flat on two sides (north and east) while sloping on the south and west sides.
edit: Something like this
So this actually wasn't that far off from the truth. The highest point will be the north-eastern corner.
I like it a lot also - it will be a great addition to the area, and certainly a nice building at the front of the skyline. I think the height and design will be a great break in surrounding buildings as well, especially from the Green Water area with regards to height. I also like that it appears to have a cut in the "sail" every six or seven floors, adding some texture to it - while keeping the sleek slope. I look forward to seeing the renderings.
I'm digging the uniqueness the most. The zoning requirements on this lot seems to have sculpted an exceptionally good looking building that probably wouldn't be anywhere near as exciting to look at if constructed on a block with less restrictions.
Is there a building in the US that looks similar? I can't think of one for a change.
