As well, today's network gives NO alternative to the 400 series Highways. If you wanted to avoid Highway 401 for whatever reason, just hop on Highway 2. Now, you'll end up on a number of differently named roads that were part of Highway 2.

One day, I hope the MTO decides to review the highway network, create provincial highway signage guidelines, and if I have my wish, the majority of the 1997/1998 downloaded highways would be reinstated, simply for navigational reason.

And what they could do, is have the provincial highway shield and where "The King's Highway" moniker was originally located, replace it with the county name or municipality.
A more consistent use of "control cities" would be nice as well. For example, no signs pointing the way to Toronto via the 416-401 coming out of Ottawa's west end, and no city destinations at all (if there is one I missed it) for those getting on the 401 on its entire 40-50 km stretch across Toronto.

I've built another interchange in Simcity 4, this time based on 403-407 ETR junction in Ontario.

Video Link

Here's what it looks like in Google Maps:

And here's what the zoomed out interchange looks like in Simcity 4.

(Thought I may as well share this here since Skyscraperpage has interest in Simcity creations.)

I was going to post this in the Bridges thread I created long ago, but I feel if I put it there it will be ignored (I think the bridge thread gets so little love because Toronto is not able to participate to the level of Vancouver, Montreal and other Canadian cities)

This shot is from in New Westminster and it looks at highway 91. In the foreground is the Queensburough Bridge and in the back ground is the Alex Fraser. I don't know why but this area to me almost has a North Eastern US city feel to it. (I think it is the bridges, highways, the river, the factories, its generally flat, etc...)

And here is a pic from under the Queensburough Bridge again looking to the Alex Fraser Bridge.

Pics are my own from Today:

If you consider that the Golden Horseshoe contains about 25% of Canada's population, people from that area actually appear to be somewhat under-represented on this forum.

^^^ 25% of Canada has basically no bridges and there's nothing wrong with that. so bridge thread is quiet. no need to be sensitive. that does make sense.

Yeah, maybe I am being a little silly, but i love bridges so much (just as much as towers) and I feel this is an area where Metro-Vancouver really shines (just how 200m+ towers is where Toronto really shines).

I always post my own photos of these amazing structures and it takes hard work to get to many decent vantage points of these bridges.

I guess sometimes all we want is a little forum love, haha!

Still hope everyone enjoys the photos though.

You didn't want to put the pics in the bridge section cuz you think they'll be ignored?

Why not post your pics in the hockey thread or the Canada's 10 Tallest U/C thread if you want people to see it so badly?

There was a thread at SSP a couple months ago full of whining about how Toronto doesn't have any cool bridges, so I think it is a fair statement to make.

This is going to be built near Nipigon:

Construction begins in 2012, completion for 2014. It will be Ontario's first cable stayed bridge and one of the province's tallest bridges, part of the 4-laning of the Trans-Canada from Nipigon to Thunder Bay.

Technically, the bridges are part of highway infrastructure. So in essence, on topic. If it was a bike bridge..., that's a different story.

Hey, Southern Ontario does have a few bridges worth noting.

-Burlington Skyway - QEW
-Hogg's Hollow - 401 (Busiest multi-structure bridge system in the world)
-Bluewater Bridges - 402
-Ambassador Bridge - 3 (Busiest boarder crossing in the world in terms of worth of goods)
-Rainbow Bridge - RR420
-Queenston/Lewinston - 405
-Peace Bridge - QEW
-Thousand Islands - 138

Plus we'll be getting another awesome bridge in Windsor to the US of A once Michigan clears their heads.

Not to mention the Prince Edward Viaduct.

Fun Fact: Before the anti-suicide barrier Luminous Veil was installed in 2003, it was the 2nd most popular suicide spot in the world, behind only the Golden Gate Bridge.

Don't get me started on the luminous wall. It ruined the most beautiful bridge in the city, and didn't even affect the total number of suicides in the city...

Not one has occurred on the bridge since it was done..

And though it does look out of place, I don't think it detracts that much from the bridge, you still get a very good view from it, and it's much better than a chainlink fence.

I don't think they really cared if people were committing suicide or not, I think they were just afraid someone would jump over the Don Valley Parkway, fall through a car's windscreen and kill someone else. So no, it hasn't really reduced the number of suicides in the city, but it has substantially reduced the risk to people who'd rather live to see the next morning.

Jumpers can check out anywhere along the 90% of bridge span that doesn't pass over roadway... the ones who choose to risk others' lives in the process are attention whores I just hate spending resources and ruining other people's quality of life just to prevent the unpreventable... just like with airport security... none of the thwarted attempts at smuggling/terrorism thus far have been credited to any screening measure.
