I was sitting in the big table by the front door. There were originally three of us until some nerdy couple who wouldnt put their cell phones down sat at our table uninvited. I think they ordered the mac n cheese too and were lovin it.

you must have come after us. There was no one at the big table and we left after some hipster couple who reeked of smoke sat on the couch next to us.

I wasn't there on Friday... Thurs & Sat.

Oh yeah, and they should stay open until bar closing time, not midnight, on the weekends. I get that the owners and servers are tired and probably don't want to stay open so late, especially if they've been open since 11am. But they should maybe change their hours from like 4pm - 2am on Sat at the very least.

They finally cleared out the last remnants of the burned building on the NE corner of 2nd St & Roosevelt over the last couple of days. I know there is a proposal to put some sort of ASU housing there, so not sure if clearing the site means anything or not. Probably not would be my guess

There was a zoning proposal to put hi-rise off campus student housing on the parcel. But it sounded a bit pie in the sky to me.

Isn't that W Hotel, the exact one they built in NM? Are these realistic or just some guy dreaming?

It can't be the exact one they built in NM considering that there are no buildings in NM that are 38 stories... the tallest in ABQ is 22 stories. And I'm pretty sure there aren't any W Hotels in ABQ.

I know I have seen a render (or picture) of W that looks just like that one on here before. Hu, wonder what I am remembering then.

That's the one I was referring to. I can't remember exactly where I read about it, but it was supposed to be 20 stories with ground level retail if I recall correctly.

Someone posted the Apex and W Hotel concepts many months back, I hadn't seen the spire though. I'm happy someone is thinking big for Phoenix.

From HX's earlier post about potential plans for what was the pyramid building.

Quote:
Pursuant to A.R.S. Section 38-431.02, notice is hereby given to the members of the site plan review team and to the general public, that the SITE PLAN REVIEW TEAM will hold a meeting open to the public on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. located in Room 1 West, First Floor, Phoenix City Hall, 200 West Washington, Phoenix, Arizona.

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

Review of Preliminary Site Plan 99-3515

A development zoned C-2 and located at the Northeast corner of 2nd Street & Roosevelt Street. The project name is RO2 Residential -2nd & Roosevelt.
And this is the project...

Quote:
Permit# PAPP-0901907 Issue Date 8/6/09 Expires 8/6/10
Permit Description RO2 RESIDENTIAL
Project 09-3515 RO2 RESIDENTIAL

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 250' MIXED USE TOWER WITH RETAIL, RESIDENTIAL AND ABOVE GRADE PARKING

Pre-application 09-3515 PAPP 0901907 SDEV 0900387
RO2 STUDENT HOUSING
250' Mixed Use With Student Housing and Private Amenities
NEC of 2nd St and Roosevelt St
Exist:C-2, .58 acres
QS 11-32, C-1, District 8

This is on the NEC of 2nd and Roosevelt where that weird sunk-in-the-ground pyramid looking building that burned down was. Could it actually be something solid seeing how they are looking for permits in this market?

More above grade parking? The last thing this city needs is more parking options. This does not encourage pedestrian activities/spending.

It has ground floor retail. The site is only a 1/2 acre. Above grade could be a garage in back with a building on top of it and retail below it.

And does anyone know what this is all about? I'm interested, are they going to designate neighborhoods within downtown!?

You seem mad about the idea of designating neighborhoods within downtown, why? Thats a smart thing to do, as there are different neighborhoods that make up greater downtown.

Its part of the Urban Form Project, here's a post from the DVC about it: http://downtownvoices.org/2010/01/29/phoenix-seeks-public-input-on-downtown-code/

Since Downtown is made up a variety of different neighborhoods (or 'character areas') each area has its own specific type of zoning. Biomed is different from warehouse which is different from Evans Churchill, etc.

You can see this PDF for more info on the character areas:
http://phoenix.gov/urbanformproject/dtplan03.pdf

Here's a map of the character areas if you dont want to look at the whole document:
