I've been meaning to post this for a few weeks. It's from a Prudential national spot titled "STICKERS".

That commercial is played very frequently on CNBC and other news channels.

Austin's official X-Games video finally came out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLDVOI-C5uU

Detroit's video is pretty good. That city really wants the games. Charlotte's video was really lame and got taken off Youtube becasue of copyright violation. They used part of the Detroit video and the makers of the Detroit video complained.

Love the ATX Games and TeXas branding at the end.

very cool video - but where was that at 1:56?

Edit - that Austin video was good and all . . .then I was curious and watched the Detroit bid video and pee'd a little. That was incredible. I love how they embrace the industrial city in decline, down but not out theme. Either city would make for a great backdrop - but I feel a bit more for Detroit. I mean, if Austin is the golden child and darling of the media right now as a city to watch and city of the future, Detroit is the red-headed step child everyone loves to trash and wishes would just go away. That's quite a contrast.

That's how I feel. The typical Detroit boosters try to pretend the blight isn't as bad as it really is. (Viewing Detroit with Google Street View just makes you wonder how in the hell did this happen in the U.S.?) But the Detroit video really embraces the urban blight which is great for the X-Games. If Austin or Detroit don't get the games I'll be mad.

I liked the Austin video more than the Detroit one. I think Austin's vid showed more action and was more fun.

I assume they are selling the total experience and atmosphere of Austin.... using that as a draw for visitors, etc.

To get the x-games you have to sell the city in things like that, not the logistics of the game itself. The logistics are a whole 'nother ball game and there is a time and place for them. Promotional videos are not it. Music = Austin, therefore sell music.

I guess we could say what does being a down trodden city have to do with the X Games as well.

Beautiful video. Man we are lucky to be here. Interesting how the dogs didn't seem distracted by the video copter. I'm sure it was a bit noisy. I guess Austin dogs are layed back too.

A reporter from The Guardian is doing a road trip across Texas and they recently stopped in Austin and checked out a lot of places around the city. Pretty cool stuff.

They're surprisingly quiet. They are extremely lightweight, run on battery power, and so there's not a lot of noise.

That Guuardian thread is some of the very best travel writing I have ever seen about Austin. Good find.
