I saw it earlier today, but now my browser doesn't recognize the plug-in.

We had a small TRUWinnipeg meeting tonight and the other people there commented on HUGE setback from Main St. and would it be possible to move the building closer to Main?

only just download it......... thats what i did

but then i kinda have to. to watch it......... due to the fact theres no quik time for linux and i gota use a 3rd party program that does not play it in mozila....

But I thought the building is just supposed to replace the current 100 Main St. which is close to the Fort but is south of it.

So this plan then does allow for partial recreation of the Fort and the 30-storey office tower?

I really like it. I think it would be wonderful if it got built. It would be a great addtiion to the skyline as well.

It was much less of a backwater before all the tall buildings went up. But yes my views are coloured by nostalgia for the Winnipeg of 1977.

i totally understand why it makes sense here....the forks and the high density residential neighbourhood that surrounds it is a good selling feature....it makes more sense to build residential here than near portage and main, with no amenities and no other population.

i have always thought that a glass residential tower would sell like crazy here....there are lots of people in winnipeg who want the amenities of larger cities and would pay for the vancouveresque lifestyle, i think....the view in the animation over the forks to the human right museum is awesome...i also like the view through the towers of portage and main with this tower in the middle anchoring the end of downtown...very cool.

I think Winnipeg is way too beige .. bring on some fancy glass buildings!!

I also like the graphic model of the human rights musuem. It gives a clearer idea of what the shape of the building will look like.

Anyways, the rumour a few months ago was that Great West Life wanted a new signature building for this century so they are (possibly) the main tenant of the new 100 Main St.

Anyone hear anything further? How tall in metres will this be?

And if this is true, what will become of their buildings on Osborne St.?

We can assume that some communications equipment like cellular towers, FM radio transmitters, etc... will be put on top it too. That'll look cool with red lights at night. How about adding that to the 3D render?

It might also help the retail portion of Fort Garry Place, which has been a disappointment since it opened. Now with 1500 more people during the day, maybe it'll make a good mall similar to Winnipeg Square services like office supplies, but without the cruddy poor people.

Re: the set back from Main St. Could it be why they want it like that so they could have it landscaped similar to what GWL has at their present location?

That squared section on the west side of the building... is that for parking? I counted about 10 levels. Yikes! Maybe downsize the amount of parking to 1/2 (5 levels) or 1/3 (3 or 4 levels). I know the Osborne St. location has very little parking, but if we're to raise the profile of Transit in our city, we can't be building such massive infrastructure for the cars... I can't imagine close to 1,500 cars going to GWL and added to X amount going to the new Manitoba Hydro tower.... traffic would really be a mess.

I have also heard that Domo Gas has been looking for a new office for there HQ. I am not sure if they would be big enough to be a lead tenant of a large building, but could definatley be a secondary tenant.

Just out of curiosity, without trying to derail the thread, where is Domo currently HQ'd?

I'd be very pleased if GWL was looking for a new signature building, but wouldn't an assurance company in a perfect world want everything on only a few floors. ...It seems counter-productive to disperse the employees amongst many. Then again, they are in 2 locations currently, but I have no idea how things are admined, so can't comment with any breadth of knowledge.

Please, oh please, let us build this large building.
