To be clear, however:
  • When the centre is running, it will only likely employ 10-20 people

To be clearer
Construction will support at least 800 jobs in the trades and engineering, with a minimum of 80 full-time roles created once the facility is fully operational. Based on industry research, as many as 750 additional community jobs could result from a large data centre deployment of this nature.
It’s a $12 billion investment for Saskatchewan is that clear enough

I read 80 permanent jobs, plus spinoff jobs like contractors.

Almost 100% of the comments on social media about the data centre have completely incorrect facts.

And at the same time, many of the certainties provided by Bell should be treated as false until they bear out. Many projects like this promise huge economic returns and many jobs, and then in the end they fail to deliver to the extent promised.

So we're supposed to believe complete flat out lies by clueless people on social media instead?

Guess what? AI is here to stay. People need to realize that. I'm fine with reaping some of that for our province.

No I'm not saying that at all. Just that both sides aren't providing fully accurate info.

Right. One side is making things up out of thin air and the other side is being somewhat optimistic (allegedly).

Clearer render from Bell. I believe the semi-trailer like units are back-up generators that will run on natural gas. You can see the central admin building is linked by enclosed passageways to each data centre.

There is extra land here, so if AI is going to be as big as many expect, this thing should grow. Great to have an early foothold in what could be the biggest industry of this generation.

The Bell news release state there’s extra land for more data centers. All we need now is for Bell to invest in a downtown office tower.

Work at the aquatic site is just removal of contaminated soil. The excavations do not indicate the shape of any of the pools, which makes sense as they aren't digging deep.

Regina leaders see AI data centre development as a win
A $12-billion AI data centre planned near Regina is expected to bring hundreds of jobs, major investment and new training opportunities for local students.
REGINA — A new AI data centre planned southeast of Regina is seen as a massive win for local officials.

The 300 MW data centre in the RM of Sherwood will bring $12 billion in economic impact for the province, along with approximately 800 construction jobs, roughly 80 permanent jobs, and an additional 750 economic spin-offs.

At an official announcement on Monday, Mayor Chad Bachynski said the city is focused on the possibilities the centre will create for people.

“There’s are opportunities for people to live in Regina. There’s job opportunities, and there's educational opportunities. So I think we see really being the liveability hub of this data centre right beside.”

Economic Development Regina (EDR) CEO John Bailey called this a “larger-scale investment into the city.”
During the announcement, Bell Canada CEO Mirko Bibic mentioned partnering with Sask. Polytechnic and the University of Regina for students to receive training and hands-on experience with artificial intelligence.

Bailey said ensuring the area has a labour-ready workforce through post-secondary education will have a huge impact on the community.

In addition to the RM of Sherwood, other municipalities, including the RM of Edenwold, have also received inquiries about data centres.

However, Bailey said discussions about future tech companies looking at Regina and the surrounding areas aren’t on EDR’s radar currently.
