I was wrong on this one when it's lit up it looks a lot nicer. I understand the white balconies now more.

I just hope they tone down the colors to something more traditional after the IOC leaves Chicago. Maybe just the blue would be fine or one set of colors, the entire rainbow at once is somewhat tacky. It would be cool if it alternated colors schemes though.

Ill bet the effect will be weakened once the tenants turn on their lights and what not.

I wonder what the lighting looks like from a distance...

I was never a fan of this building (it's just a box with wavy balconies). But after seeing it at night, it's growing on me.

Everyone always bitches when i mention Chicago needs more buildings lit up in a spectrum of colors....but I think Aqua is proof it can be done tastefully.

From those images, it appears it's lit from below, so any light shining up on any of the facades will be blocked by the underside of each balcony 'waves'. Granted, there will be some areas that will have more light exposure since the waves are random and don't cover every square inch of the facade, but I think that might be minimal.

I'm wondering however if those lights weren't on display solely for the benefit of the IOC which was staying directly across the street at the Fairmont...does anyone know if they are permanently part of the building?

Man, I dunno if I would ever step outside onto my 80th floor balcony if I had a place in that building. Could you do it? I've seen people do it even on the 30th or so floor in NYC, and it blows my mind that they do. What if a can of soda rolls off the side, or something?

It falls down and puts a dent in whatever it hits...

Seriously though, if the can is full the wind isn't going to blow it off the balcony. If the can is empty then the air resistance will keep it from falling very fast because the density of the object is very low (remember we're not operating in a vacuum). It would likely hit the ground with the same force as if it were dropped from the 2nd floor.
