Recently I was able to see a rendering of the new 40 to 50 story proposal. Can't say I was impressed, but maybe it was just an early render?

The best way I would describe it is imagine a very big version of the proposal at 3021 Pembina Highway. A large version that looks vaguely like this:

Basically small windows and balconies for much of the building. Could change though?

I hate this small window 'trend' - if you can call it that lol. Hopefully these unimpressive renderings are more for massing and not details and materials. Fingers crossed.

That is a great assessment. It is a horrible design. I am hoping for revisions.

Man that's ugly. I could live with the tower portion (minus the white hat...seriously wtf is the point of these?), but the 10 storey grey stucco podium with zero design put into it is actually offensive.

That is some very efficient and economical vertical stacking.

Quite possibly the greatest commie block ever conceived.

Hopefully, it is taller than 50 stories and becomes even more monolithic in appearance, dominating the Winnipeg skyline for the next half century to come.

I wonder where they will find all the Hardi board?

Could use a revolving restaurant at the top.

What an absolute fucking CLUNKER of a building! Can you imagine walking down the street next to this thing? I really couldn't have imagined worse. And to think I was just looking at the Baydo tower thread in Sask the other day and thinking how lucky we are to not have those atrocities in Wpg...but here we are!

Well, at least it is built right up to the property line.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Just imagine this beauty on the skyline for decades to come. Maybe one day, if it ever gets built, it can battle and defeat the Les résidences soleil clocktower in Laval.

Funny you mention that, the Baydo is the first thing that came to mind when I saw that. It would be our Baydo.

Is that lower third of the building all parking? Or is that office space?

I know this one obviously won't be a hit but I'm fine with it. Edmonton has seen a bunch of less than spectacular residential towers go up over the last 15 years and they have still had a really positive impact on the livability of the area by bringing many more people downtown. Adding that density will help even if the tower isn't much to look at. At least there is a tiny bit of flair on the top parts that would be most prominent in a skyline view. From the ground it will just be another tall building.

Thanks for posting it, T'Cona.

Edit: The more I look at the rendering, the more I'm convinced the tower isn't that bad but for that podium which just ruins it. It's like wearing a nice polo shirt with a pair of those Cookie Monster pajama pants you often see someone wearing while on a midnight sev run.

To the people asking, I don't have any in the works at the moment, but once this one shows some images I plan on making better versions of all my diagrams!

EDIT: absolute vomit, they need to fix this thing. I'm normally pretty forgiving but this is a travesty.
