I should clarify that I have no hate for supa tall buildings in Winnipeg if someone wants to build them! I just meant that I understand if the economics don’t support that, given our population, amount of land, and oversized downtown. Certainly if it starts a development war, I’m all in!! (as a spectator with no skin in the game!)

What’s going into the former Rexall on Portage Avenue West? The stucco has been replaced by real what looks like lime stone or some other nice stone. This day and age it’s usually the opposite. Is it a bank or a restaurant or a jewellery store, it has to be something fairly nice for them to be spending that kind of money

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think any official announcement has been made. Which is unusual for these kinds of projects, typically there is government and/or donor money involved which results in the usual high profile groundbreaking ceremony media event.

I can’t wait to hear the news. I’m all for super tall skyscrapers!! It’s time Winnipeg’s downtown gets the postcard view it deserves.

I'm not expecting anything dramatic from the RWB thing. A few stories of residences. That will plug a small hole in the neighbourhood.

Anything more is a bonus.

Yeah, I'm certainly not expecting anything grand. But I am curious as to whether the RWB will be expanding anything, i.e. a bigger residence, or more studio space, etc.

That block of Edmonton St. has not changed dramatically but there has been enough development over the years to improve the feel. Now it would be nice to see something happen on the other side of the street... as much as I enjoy Ming Court, it would be nice to see something a bit bigger and better go up on that lot and the adjacent parking.

Leave Ming Court alone (even though it's awful), that block of Edmonton is pretty much a lost cause, it's almost all big blank walls of parkade that aren't going anywhere, anytime soon. And it just leads into the blank wall of the convention centre.

A block over, Kennedy on the other hand has a ton of potential. Every building there has main floor CRUs, except for the beautiful old apartment building. Developing the Medical Arts parking lot, and the one at NW Kennedy & St. Mary, and all of a sudden you have the most complete street in all of Downtown. And right off the most active retail node (west Graham) in all of Downtown as well.

I'd really like to see Kennedy and Edmonton change to two way traffic.

Pallister spiking the MLLC plan for the Medical Arts Bldg didn't help things on Kennedy... getting that lot to the north of it used properly would do wonders for the general vicinity.

The PKF Law office across from the Medical Arts filled in a gap nicely, but not much happened after that. The big parking lots on the west side of the block really drain it of any vitality that it might otherwise have.
