The Burquitlam Funeral home is moving as it will be replaced by a 27 storey highrise.

Development Permit to construct one 27-storey residential tower and a 3-storey podium apartment, consisting of 197 units of affordable, rental and market condos.

533 Cottonwood is currently a 3 storey rental. It is next door to the soon to start Meridian tower and across from a proposed 29 storey tower.

Development Permit application to construct one 5-storey and one 36-storey building with a total of 98 rental units (20 non-market, 78 market) and 299 residential units for a total of 397 units.

Just west of Mackin Park along Brunette and Nelson down in Maillairdville there is an application to build 387 residential units and 157 rental units. That's all the application says. But its a former trailer park with some houses which closed down a while ago. I wonder if it will include the apartment building on site.

Coquitlam starts game plan for downtown

Proposes to set up two business office districts, an entertainment district and hotel for city core

Coquitlam has sketched out an early game plan to attract office space to city centre.

But whether it’s a winning formula won’t be known for decades.

“Our downtown is physically the same size as Vancouver, which is from Stanley Park to Chinatown, which is a huge area with lots of stuff in it. We can’t achieve [what Vancouver has] overnight,” manager of community planning Andrew Merrill pointed out to council.

The staff report said, “It is important that the existing malls and shopping plazas do not become solely residential enclaves. Commercial and office development is essential for securing long-term economic prosperity since it adds to the non­ residential tax base and provides job opportunities.”

The city envisions office business districts built around the Lincoln and Coquitlam Centre SkyTrain stations. The report notes the closer office buildings are to SkyTrain stations, the lower the vacancy rates and the higher the rents.

The city is proposing developers be required to build standalone office buildings, although in combination with other types of development since the districts are not meant to become exclusively office precincts.

Two major projects that would add another 5,000 residents to Port Coquitlam’s borders were pitched by developers this week.

Tuesday, at the city’s committee of council, Marwest Development Corp. and Quantum Properties offered preliminary designs of their residential and commercial visions.

Under Marwest’s plans, it intends to replace PoCo Place — a mall built in 1980 at the corner of Lougheed Highway and Westwood Street, where Michaels and Pomme are currently tenants — with about 1,000 new homes in three high-rises and townhouses.

The new owner of the Woodland Park townhouse development in Port Moody says it’s committed to working with BC Housing to retain the site’s affordable housing component,

Edgar Development, a Vancouver-based company that specialized in rental projects, acquired the 23-acre property in the College Park neighbourhood that is comprised of 200 rental townhouses in 19 buildings, last December.

Good god, 750 Kingsway is the armpit of Poco - completely cut off from everything else by highway and industrial. Almost certainly also on a floodplain. Horrid place for residential.

Highway, industry, railway (railyard), and river!

And yes; it is most definitely a floodplain.

I couldn’t agree more for it being an absolutely terrible place to zone residential.

Should remain for industrial / light industrial uses.

Also guess that means the current mill operation is shutting down? That sucks.

In a region that has an industrial land shortage this stuff is still happening is just not good at all. There seriously needs to be a ban on building residential on flood plains too. Why don't they just build all this housing closer to transit so the people living in the housing they build A) can take transit B) are less likely to suffer in an event of a flood C) Are given the best conditions to survive and thrive.
