Hmm, maybe its a typo. But that lot on the odd side is probably what they were referring to.

Just-in-Cali, alot of people(including myself) have ideas on how creative the Park should be, what do you think of our concepts?

EDIT:

Found it LAB

Anyways, I guess it IS right next to 1100 Wilshire.

So....there WILL be angled beams, just behind the verticals on the exterior.

The architect explained that the bridge across Broadway was intended to provide two functions: (1) to provide a continuous pedestrian link, and (2) to provide a vista point from which people could view the park and the downtown skyline.

I don't have a problem with the bridge, just so long as it's not intended as the primary link across Broadway. The at-grade crossing has to be primary.

Actually, at under 50 stories, it looks like it could very well be taller than Park Fifth. Does that mean its floors and ceilings will be thinner?
It's only going to be as tall if not a bit taller than Cal Plaza 1.

This rendering of Park Fifth makes it seem almost as tall as the Cal 2 and the Gas Co. Tower, but in others, it looks smaller than them.

So then even with the floor thickness difference, The Grand could still be shorter, then.

Given the size of the area they had to work with, I think they did good job on the design of the park... except for one thing. One expensive thing to fix, however. I feel the streets cutting through the park are a huge negative. Besides chopping up the park, disrupting the continuity of the design, and safety issues; a lot of park space is lost. And it's more space than just the width of the street. Except for jogging, think of an activity you would do at the park. Now, how far away from the street are you going to situate yourself. Most people are not going to locate themselves near a street, so in effect there is this no-mans land that borders the streets. And if you have buses and trucks coming through, it could become a good size no-mans land.

I think ladowntowner hit the nail on the head here:

...

If the streets are covered, and the park becomes one continuous swath of land, then maybe the design elements start at different locations in the park and their size appropriately change because they are no longer forced to fit within the blocks. IOW, the hardscaped Court of Flags area could be reduced in size to allow for more green area. It's only the size it is in the design because it needs to fill the whole block.

Question for those that attended the meeting: Was "covering the streets" discussed in the meeting? No doubt it is probably a budget buster, but I would be curious to know if it was considered.

Oh, I guess there is one more thing. As a dog owner, it would be great if there was a "dog park" section.

Park fifth is 249.9 m
Grand ave project is 190.0 m.
Cal plaza is 176.2 m
Cal plaza 2 is 228.6 m
Gas Tower 228.3

I hope this helps.

^ When you quote the post, just delete the [IMG] tags and everything between them. I fixed your post for you.

JDR, Park Fifth looks shorter on some skyline views because it's ground floor is at a much lower elevation than The Grand. The Grand will be considerably shorter in overall height, but it will appear taller because it sits atop Bunker Hill, whereas Park Fifth sits at the foot of that hill.

Maybe they can put a little park there...thats my solution to all developments that might block iconic murals/advertisements.

Of course no developer would purchase the land to put a park there so that options probably out the door.

^^ I may be the lone person here when I say I actually LIKE the car wash's concrete design. I think it would be cool once the car wash takes a hike (which I think will happen as LA Live completely opens for business), and some creative business will come in and put some kind of retail shop there (remodeling it of course).
