Union Park (325 Front St.)

https://urbantoronto.ca/database/pro...nion-park.6508

When I went for a walk in this area this year. I passed a poster saying that four towers are planned here. Do you know the current state of affairs? The year on the poster is 2019.

Now that it's complete, these towers really remind me of the State Street tower in Boston, which turned out great. If these turn out like that, they'll be great additions to the Toronto skyline, especially with their prominence in the view from the lake. That being said, they've been proposed for some time now, so not sure if/when they'll move forward. But I am rooting for them.

I like them too but Union Park is listed as a stale proposal.

Yeah, basically all commercial proposals are not going ahead at this time around the city. I'm very curious what will come of Union Park, but if and when it does move forward, it'll be a couple years further removed from the pandemic, and I'm sure projects like Commerce Court 3 will be viable again.

Lol ... figured it was the only way to elicit a comment in this ghost town.

I've been blessed to visit the Maldives 3 times (all day spent face down with mask and snorkel...unbelievable), and would happily head there this January if yer buying.

I'll definitely try to visit once more while her head is still (barely) above H2O.

It's been "boxified":

Can you spot it in the forest of towers?

69 Yonge | 89.45m | 21s | H&R REIT | PARTISANS l recommended for Approval

This (highly divisive) addition and conversion to residential of the 15 storey 1913 office building (formerly the Canadian Pacific Railway) is now recommended for approval.

A near 200 metre tower in the city use to be a big deal… now just more infill in the forest near Yonge and Bloor. Below in gold in @steveve’s future rendering.

Small… but one of the few good things Cadillac Fairview has delivered recently. Nice restoration and harmless addition on top.

Garden District Condos | 99.97m | 32s | Hyde Park | a—A l u/c

I’m a bit blown away at the result of this heritage reconstruction… every (usuable) brick from the rooming houses that were gutted by fire, was logged and reused. The entire site was demolished before reconstruction began from scratch.

Now it looks like the original row was just loving restored not rebuilt.

Before the fire:

Summer 2020 site completely demolished.

Back in summer of 2022 heritage reconstruction underway (with the tower cantilevering behind).

I'm sorry but I can't get past the rendering of 19 Bloor W. I'm all for density, but a building that tall (a metric supertall) that close to another supertall is just getting ridiculous. Buildings that tall need at least a little bit of room to breathe. I've never liked that POMO Scotiabank branch it's replacing but it should be a 10-30 story structure. 94 stories is absurd.

That might not look too bad is they did a better job matching the colours and materials to make it the addition appear like a seamless part of the structure. And in the 2nd image they also need to disguise that utilities box on top better. Not sure if the second render just isn't as detailed or if that angle isn't going to be as well disguised but either way it needs to be done if they want it to look presentable.

HuntleySelby | 206.15m | 63s | Broccolini | Arcadis l Approved(?)

Another 200 metre+ tower for the city.

This project was approved in mid-December by council and now news that both towers have had significant height increases: 4 more storeys (now 63s and 206m) for the tallest tower and 10 more storeys (now 58s and 193.5m) for the second tower. It’s not clear if these increases were part of Council’s December approval or are a resubmission.

Image below is the shorter version of the 2 towers before the height increases. Located south of Bloor between Jarvis Street and Sherbourne Street, this is easily the tallest project in the city not located on a major street/avenue.
